Death toll rises to 10 in attack at Sunjuwan Military Station in Jammu and Kashmir as body of one more jawan recovered

With the recovery of another soldier’s body during searches inside the Sunjuwan Military Station in Jammu City in Jammu District, the death toll in the terror attack has risen to 10, army said on February 13 (today), reports Hindustan Times. The body of the sixth soldier was recovered on February 12 evening during the searches, the army said. With this, the death toll in the terror attack on the army camp that started on February 10 has risen to 10, including six soldiers, one civilian and three militants. Ten others, including six women and children were injured.

Meanwhile, the Army said on February 12 that the search operation was underway in its Sunjwan camp, which was attacked by a group of suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants. “The search operation is still on (at the camp),” Jammu- based Army public relations officer Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said. Also, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri on February 12 told the Legislative Assembly that the operation was in the final stages.

Separately, as all three fidayeens (suicide squad) killed inside Sunjuwan Military Station have turned out to be Pakistanis, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) would approach Pakistan to take bodies of their nationals, reports Daily Excelsior on February 12. Sources said that bodies of all three slain fidayeens have been kept at the Military Hospital, Satwari after post-mortem and completion of all other legal formalities. “There was enough evidence with Jammu and Kashmir Police that all three fidayeens killed during two days operation were Pakistani nationals. The evidence has been forwarded to the MEA through official channels. “The External Affairs Ministry would now take up the issue of handing over bodies of slain militants to Pakistan by giving evidence that the militants belonged to that country,” sources said, adding that the bodies will not be buried till Pakistan gives its response. They said the bodies will be buried only if Pakistan refuses to take them, said source.
