Bomb Blasts Triggered by CPI-Maoist: 2017
December 20: CPI-Maoist cadres blasted and set
ablaze a mobile tower of a private company at Mirzadih village
of Giridih District of Jharkhand.
December 15: One CPI-Maoist cadre was killed and
three DRG personnel were injured in an encounter between SFs and
Maoists at Gognuda-Mudopara forest under Phulbagdi Police Station
in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh. SDGP, anti-Naxal operations,
DM Awasthi, said that as DRG team was approaching the Maoists,
the rebels triggered a landmine blast and indefinitely opened
fire at the operation team. He added, three personnel were injured
in the IED blast and a Maoist cadre was killed in the encounter
that ensued soon after the explosion.
December 12: A pump house of NMDC Bacheli Deposit-5
project was blown up by the Maoists in Akash Nagar of Dantewada
District of Chhattisgarh, during Bharat bandh call on December
12.
December 12: A BSNL tower was blown up by the
CPI-Maoist rebels in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh, during Bharat
bandh call on December 12. The water supply in NMDC mines
area was stopped due to blowing of water pump house.
December 4: An elderly man was killed after a
pressure IED planted by CPI-Maoist cadres went off in Kansaram
village in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place
when the victim, Karko Kanna (70), had gone to an agriculture
field for farm-related work in Kansaram village under Kistaram
Police Station limits, Sukma, SP, Abhishek Meena said. As per
preliminary information, Kanna inadvertently stepped on the pressure
IED while passing through the field on the outskirts of the village,
around 500 kilometres away from the State capital, Raipur, he
said.
November 29: A CRPF constable was injured in an
IED blast triggered by the CPI-Maoist cadres near Palodi village
under Kistaram Police Station in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place when the jawan of the 208th CoBRA battalion,
along with a Police team was carrying out an anti-Naxal operation
in the area.
November 28: A villager Dudhi Hidma (50), hailing
from the neighbouring Amapenta village, was killed in a pressure
IED blast in a field near Kansaram in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
Such devices are generally planted by Maoists to target SFs who
often pass through agriculture fields and dirt tracks during patrolling,
SP, Abhishek Meena said.
November 28: Suspected CPI-Maoist cadres triggered
blasts of a slurry pipeline, belonging to Essar Steel, near Chinitalguna
village at Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri District of Odisha.
According to reports from the company sources, the Maoists blasted
portions of the pipeline in at least three spots by using landmine
explosives. The damaged points are located 500 metres from one
end to the other. The blasts caused considerable damage to the
pipeline, which is stretched across the Bailadila Mines area of
Dantewada District in Chhattisgarh to its steel plant in Visakhapatnam
in Andhra Pradesh. The slurry pipeline passes through dense and
thick forest, where the Maoists have sizeable presence and influence.
The Maoists have targeted the slurry pipelines thrice since past
one year.
November 24: A Policeman on duty was killed and
a policewoman seriously injured when suspected CPI-Maoist cadres
triggered a blast in a bustling market place in Gadchiroli District
of Maharashtra. The incident occurred when the two were on security
duty in Kotgul village of Kurkheda region as the weekly market
was in full swing with participation of hundreds of tribals and
traders from surrounding areas. Suddenly, an IED triggered off
by the Maoists exploded, seriously injuring the two security officials,
Suresh Gawde and Sonal Khevale, standing close by. While, Gawde
succumbed to his injuries Khevale's condition is reported to be
stable.
November 19: A CRPF trooper was killed in an IED
blast triggered by the CPI-Maoist cadres in Sukma District of
Chhattisgarh. Head Constable K Venkanna sustained splinter injuries
after a joint patrol of the CRPF and State Police were out for
an operation in the Chintagufa area of the District. The incident
happened early morning around 5.30 am when the IED blast took
place in which the trooper sustained injuries and later succumbed
to his injuries.
November 16: At least eight SF personnel of the
CRPF and the Jharkhand Police sustained injuries in an encounter
with CPI-Maoist cadres, during which the latter exploded several
IED in Burha Pahar area in Latehar District of Jharkhand. According
to the Police, around 2.15 pm, it was during the search and combing
operations that Maoists exploded several land mines, following
which there was fierce exchange between the SF personnel and the
Maoists. "At least six personnel of CRPF and one each of district
police and Jharkhand Jaguar sustained injuries in the explosions.
Nevertheless, our forces continued with their operation during
which many naxals are suspected to have been injured. Some could
be dead also," Police said.
November 14: Suspected CPI-Maoist cadres triggered

November 13: Two troopers of CoBRA were injured
in an IED blast triggered by CPI-Maoist cadres in Malkangiri District
of Odisha. The incident took place in the Chitrakonda forest when
the joint SFs including Odisha Police and CoBRA were on sanitization
operation. According to sources, a joint operation was launched
on early hours of November 13, after Odisha Police received intelligence
inputs regarding Naxal leaders from various zones gathering at
Chitrakonda forest area, to corner the Maoists.
November 10: Four CRPF personnel were injured
in a landmine blast triggered by the CPI-Maoist cadres near Latu
village in Latehar District of Jharkhand. "Four of our police
personnel have been injured after a land mine was triggered while
a patrolling party was walking through the Latu jungles during
the ongoing anti-Maoist operation in the area," said Latehar SP,
Dhananjay Kumar. The SP further informed that a joint team of
State Police and CRPF were out for anti-Maoist operation and as
soon as they reached near Latu village at 2:15 pm, Maoists triggered
a land mine leaving four jawans injured. He also said that intensive
search operation has been launched in the area to trace the culprits
out. The CRPF personnel who got injured in the land mine blast
were identified as Deputy Commandant HL Gangte, Radio Operator
Nitish Pandey, Constable Deepak Singh and Gopaljee Yadav.
October 29: A DRG trooper was injured when an
IED, planted by CPI-Maoist cadres, went off in Dantewada District
of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place in the forest near Telam-Tetam
village under Katekalyan Police Station limits when a joint team
of state's DRG and local Police was out on an anti-Maoist operation,
a Police official said. When the patrolling team was on a dirt
track in the Letam Tetam forest, around 400 kilometres away from
State capital, Raipur, the DRG jawan inadvertently stepped on
the IED, leading to a blast.
October 25: Maoists-triggered an IED blast near
a weekly market in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh. A team
of SFs was patrolling the area to provide security at a weekly
market at Manjhipara in Orchha village when the IED went off a
little distance ahead. Nobody was injured. One of the three Maoists
who fled into jungle after detonating the IED was arrested later,
Narayanpur SP Santosh Singh said. His questioning led to recovery
of another IED from the spot, the officer said.
October 11: The CPI-Maoist cadres allegedly blasted
the BSNL cell tower at Darakonda area under GK Veedhi Police Station
limits in Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh. Police suspected
that a group of armed Maoists, including militia members, moved
into the Darakonda area and blasted the equipment of cell tower
to disturb the communication system and fled from the spot.
October 2: A CRPF constable of 195th battalion,
identified as Hemant Boro, was injured in an IED blast, triggered
by of the CPI-Maoist cadres near Chikpal village under Katekalyan
Police Station in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh. The incident
took place when CRPF and the DRG had launched the operation in
the interiors of Katekalyan.
October 1: A ward councillor identified as identified
as B Ashok Kumar, suffered critical injuries after a pressure
bomb planted by the CPI-Maoist exploded at Elarmadgu village under
Bhejji Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
The blast triggered after Kumar inadvertently touched the IED
hidden in bushes. Sukma SP, Abhishek Meena, said, the incident
occurred when he was heading towards the anganwadi centre to pick
his mother.
September 20: One STF constable, Kailash Netam,
and a tribal woman, Muser Bai (35), were injured in an IED blast,
triggered by cadres of the CPI-Maoist, in Narayanpur District
of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place when a joint team of
SFs was carrying out patrolling to ensure security to the weekly
market in Orchha village, Narayanpur SP, Santosh Singh said.
September 19: Suspected CPI-Maoist cadres blew
up the office of a private solar power plant in Gaya District
of Bihar. However, there was no report of casualty in the incident.
ASP (anti-Naxal operations), Arun Kumar said about 25 Maoists,
including women, raided the premises of Wellson Energy Company
Private Limited at Saun village in Aamas Police Station area,
held hostage two guards of a security agency deployed there and
triggered a dynamite blast. The explosion blew up the control
room and the administrative building on the 125-acre premises
of the solar power company. The Maoists also set on fire other
buildings adjacent to the control room. Non-payment of 'levy',
demanded by the Maoists, is believed to be the reason for the
attack. Sources said the Maoists had earlier demanded a levy of
INR 10 million from the company, but its executives refused to
make the payment.
September 10: A DRG trooper sustained injuries
in an IED bomb blast, triggered by ultras, at an unspecified place
in the interiors of Aranpur under the same Police Station limits
in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh.
August 30: An exchange of fire took place between
SFs and the cadres of the CPI-Maoist soon after the cadres triggered
an IED bomb in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. SFs were patrolling
the forest area when the incident took place. SFs also recovered
a pipe bomb from the spot after the gun-battle. No casualties
were reported on either side during the encounter.
August 15: Three STF personnel were injured when
cadres of the CPI-Maoist triggered a pipe bomb blast the forests
under Fulbagdi Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
A constable identified as Kattam Rama was seriously injured in
the explosion. Separate teams of SFs, comprising CRPF, STF, DRG
and District Force, had launched the operation since August 14
in the interior forests of Sukma District.
August 6: The cadres of the CPI-Maoist triggered
a blast in an under-construction community hall at Jamgai village
in Gaya District of Bihar. The CPI-Maoist cadres left leaflets
claiming responsibility for the incident. The community hall was
being constructed to serve as a Police picket in the Maoist-affected
area.
August 2-3: Around 100 CPI-Maoist cadres reportedly
blew up a mobile tower, abducted three gatemen from different
railway level-crossings and also laid siege to the Danapur Durg
Express train for a few hours, abducting the cabin man, in the
Lakhisarai District of Bihar. "Around 100 rebels were involved
in the abductions from the level crossings, located in a 10-km
radius," IGP, Bhagalpur Zone, S.M. Khopde disclosed. They then
hijacked the train. A statement by the CRPF noted, "Train no-13288
Danapur Durg Express train was hijacked near the Bhalui station
[in Bhimbandh area of Lakhisarai] around 2:30 am (on Thursday).
The cabin man who was on duty was also abducted." The siege ended
after an exchange of fire took place between personnel of the
CoBRA, a specialised unit of CRPF proficient in guerrilla tactics
and jungle warfare, and the hijackers. However, no casualty was
reported from either side. The gatemen and the cabin man were
subsequently released.
July 28: A Police Constable Laxmaih was injured
when an IED laid by the CPI-Maoist cadres exploded in Dantewada
District of Chhattisgarh. A team of security personnel led by
Dantewada SP, Kamlochan Kashyap was patrolling in the area when
the incident happened.
May 29: CPI-Maoist cadres blew up a railway track
between Chiyanki-Karmabad railway station on Gaya-Mughalsarai
rail route and set ablaze vehicles in Giridih and Bokaro Districts
of Jharkhand, during the 24-hour State-wide bandh called
in Jharkhand to protest against the amendments in tenancy acts
and the alleged anti-poor policy of the Raghubar Das Government.
The Maoists blasted the down tracks between Chiyanki and Karmabad
railway stations leading to disruption of the rail movement for
at least nine hours. They also set ablaze one vehicle and one
poklen machine in Giridih and two vehicles at Chutte village in
Gomia block of Bokaro District. SDPO of Saria, Deepak Kumar said
that the Maoists blew up the track under the Dhanbad railway division.
Many other trains, including Delhi-Rajdhani, Delhi-Sealdah-Rajdhani
were also stranded at different railway stations due to the incident.
The traffic on the route was disrupted for nearly 10 hours till
a railway team reached the site and reinstalled the broken railway
lines.
May 24: The CPI-Maoist cadres triggered a blast
in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. No casualties or injuries
were reported. The DRG arrested a CPI-Maoist cadre, who was attempting
to flee from the spot.
May 19: Two CRPF personnel were injured in an
IED blast triggered by Naxals at a forest in Sukma District of
Chhattisgarh. The incident took place when a team of CRPF's 2nd
battalion was out on an anti-CPI-Maoist operation in a forest
area under Kerlapal Police Station limits, DIG of Police (Dantewada
range), Sundarraj P said. While they were cordoning-off a forested
patch near Pariya village, the Naxals triggered the IED, in which
two CRPF personnel suffered injuries.
May 5: A Home Guard, identified as Sheikh Valli,
was killed in a landmine blast triggered by the CPI-Maoist cadres
on the Lothugedda junction-Balapam stretch in Visakhapatnam District
of Andhra Pradesh. The impact of the blast was so strong that
the remains of Valli's body and the SUV he was travelling in were
scattered everywhere. Sources said the landmine was at least four
years old as the road was laid at least three times in the last
four years. The police have deployed special parties to intensify
combing operations in Visakha Agency following the incident.
May 3: A SF Personnel was killed and 19 jawans
of Gadchiroli District Police and the 37 battalion of CRPF sustained
injuries in two separate incidents under Bhamragarh Taluka
in Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra. In first incident, two
jawans of Gadchiroli Police were injured and one CRPF constable
was killed during an exchange of fire with CPI-Maoist cadres in
the Koparshi-Pulnar jungle near Koti in Bhamragarh. Later, one
of them succumbed to injuries. A MPV of the C-60 Commandos came
under a landmine attack by CPI-Maoist cadres near Kier village
injuring at least nine SF personnel. According to Police, the
Area Rakshak Dal and Gram Rakshak Dal of the CPI-Maoist
triggered the blast by completing the circuit of explosives planted
earlier.
April: 18 A villager Sanna Markam (35) was killed
and Sannu Markami (45) was injured in a blast of a pressure bomb,
which was planted by the cadres of CPI-Maoist, in Sukma District
of Chhattisgarh. According to the Police, the incident took place
when the villagers of Takahwada were heading towards the jungle
area to celebrate a local festival.
April 17: Two personnel of the STF, APC Rakesh
Singh and constable Mukesh Kunjam, were injured when a pressure
bomb, laid by the cadres of CPI-Maoist, went off in Dantewada
District of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place near Gudse village
under Katekalyan Police Station limits when the SFs were returning
after an anti-Naxal operation.
April 15: A 13-year-old boy, Sumrit, was killed
and a minor girl, Kavita (9), was injured in an IED blast suspected
to have been laid by the CPI-Maoist cadres, in Kanker District
of Chhattisgarh. CPI-Maoist cadres on many occasions have planted
IEDs at several places, targeting SFs deployed in Bastar region,
killing personnel besides villagers
April 7: A sniffer dog of the CRPF famed as 'Crackers'
died and his handler was injured when a pressure bomb planted
by Maoists went off in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. The incident
occurred when a ROP of CRPF's 170th battalion was returning to
its camp after a combing operation in Modakpal Police Station
area, a District Police official said. The ROP, accompanied by
a sniffer dog, had launched the operation from its camp in Chinna
Kodepal village
March 30: Around 20 armed CPI-Maoist cadres stormed
into Daikallu railway station office in Rayagada District of Odisha,
and exploded a tiffin bomb inside it after dragging out the station
master outside. "At least 15-20 armed Maoists arrived at the station
at around 1.30 a.m. They first ransacked the office," said station
master S.K. Parida. The Maoists then pulled the station staffs
out of the office. Soon they triggered an explosion in the office
and snatched away the walkie-talkie used by the Station Master,
the statement of the East Coast Railway said. The Maoists left
the station after 2 a.m. The window of the office and several
properties were damaged in the explosion, sources said. Before
fleeing the spot, the Maoists also put up posters and banners
of the CPI-Maoist protesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit
to Odisha and appointment of non-Odia administrative and Police
officers in the State.
March 18: Armed cadres of CPI Maoists blew up
the two-room house of a para teacher, Beerbal Ram, at village
Gowasarey under Pandu Police Station, 52 Kilometers from Daltonganj
in Palamu District of Jharkhand. Nobody was injured in the incident.
SP, Palamu District, Indrajeet Mahatha said: "The Maoists suspect
this para-teacher to be a sympathizer of a rival outfit TPC and
we believe this was the reason behind this attack on his home."
TPC is a splinter group of CPI-Maoist.
March 13: Naxals blew up the house of a para-teacher
and held a 'Jan Adalat' at Baltharwa village atop Jhumra Hill
under Mahuataad Police Station in Bokaro District of Jharkhand.
At least 30 Naxals pasted posters across the village, branding
the teacher Jailal Mahto as a 'Police informer'. Mahto was not
present at his residence at the time of the explosion. Naxals
assaulted his wife Bijli Devi (27) and his father Moti Mahto.
The group then blew up Mahto's house. Villagers in Baltharwa remained
angry with the Police for not visiting the spot more than 24 hours
after the incident.
March 11: Twelve personnel of the 219th battalion
of the CRPF were killed and another four injured when CPI-Maoist
cadres ambushed a road opening party in the dense forests near
Kottacheru village under Bhejji Police Station in the Sukma District
of Chhattisgarh. Commenting on the attack, acting CRPF DG, Sudeep
Lakhtakia stated, "The troops were part of the road clearing party
that has been securing an under-construction road between Bhejji
and Kottacheru. They were ambushed by Naxals who set off multiple
hidden IEDs on the ground and opened fire. The squad effectively
retaliated before twelve made the supreme sacrifice." However,
no casualty among the Maoists was reported. Meanwhile, the Maoists
looted six INSAS assault rifles, four AK-47 assault rifles, a
light machine gun, at least 1,587 rounds of ammunition, an UBGL,
a 51mm mortar, and two radio sets from the slain personnel. The
deceased CRPF personnel have been identified as Inspector Jagjit
Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspectors H.B. Bhatt and Narender Kumar
Singh, Head Constables Jagdish Prasad Vishnoi and P.R. Minde and
Constables Mangesh Pal Pandey, Rampal Singh Yadav, Goraknath,
Nand Kumar Patra, Satish Kumar Verma, K Shankar and Suresh Kumar.
March 8: A BSF officer was injured, when an IED,
apparently planted by the CPI-Maoist, exploded while it was being
defused by a BDS in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh. The incident
took place near a BSF camp in Korenar village under Bande Police
Station limits. The injured officer was identified as Assistant
Commandant Pradeep M, attached to the BSF's 171 Battalion. The
home-made bomb was placed beneath the ground on a dirt track between
Korenar village and the BSF camp, about 125 kilometres from Raipur,
and it was spotted during a search operation by security personnel.
February 27: A CPI-Maoist cadre, identified as
Kotesu, died on the spot and a Sabari Committee 'militia commander',
Kaaki Kannayya, suffered serious injuries while planting pressure
bomb in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. The spot where
the incident took place was near National Highway 30.
February 22: Mangal Mara (25), a native of Timapur
village was injured in an IED blast, triggered by the CPI-Maoist
cadres in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. The incident took
place between Timapur and Murdanda villages under Basaguda Police
Station limits, Bijapur ASP, Mohit Garg said. CPI-Maoist cadres
have planted the IEDs to target SFs on this strategically important
route often used by SFs. Security personnel have set up their
camps both in Timapur and Murdanda.
February 21: A CRPF jawan Ghanshyam of 212 Battalion
was injured in an IED blast in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
The blast took place near Paidigudem village under the Kistaram
Police Station limits when the CRPF team was out on a patrol.
February 19: A group of 40 Police personnel escaped
a landmine blast triggered by CPI-Maoist cadres at Kaligonda forest
area under Chintoor Police Station limits in East Godavari District
of Andhra Pradesh. Chintoor SI, P Srinivasa Kumar, who headed
the combing team, told that they suspected the Sabari Dalam of
CPI-Maoist behind the blast.
February 5: A DRG, Constable Pratap Singh Markam,
was injured when an IED blast triggered by Naxals in Dantewada
District of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place in the wee hours
between Nayanar and Gatam villages under Katekalyan Police Station
limits when a team of SFs was out on an anti-Naxal Operation,
told SHO, Vijay Patel.
February 1: At least eight Police personnel were
killed and five others injured in a landmine explosion suspected
to have been triggered by the CPI-Maoist cadres near Mungarbhumi
on Sunki ghat in Koraput District of Odisha. The van carrying
13 Police personnel was on its way to Angul. They were going to
the Police Training College, Angul to get special Police driving
training when the Maoists blasted them off at around 2 pm. The
number of deaths of Police personnel in the Maoists' Sunki landmine
explosion rose to eight with the body of lone missing driver Tulasi
Ram Majhi found this morning (February 2), informed Koraput SP,
Charan Singh Meena. Seven Police personnel died and five others
sustained injuries yesterday (February 1) as the landmine planted
underground at Sunki ghati in Koraput District on AOB exploded.
Tulasi Ram was missing, he said. The identities of the slain personnel
are Somnath Sisa, Sanjay Kumar Das, Arun Kumar Nayak, Subarna
Kumar Raj, Pradipta Kumar Rout, Ganesh Prasad Das, Harekrushna
Prushti and Tulasi Ram Majhi.
February 1: The CPI-Maoist cadres exploded a crude
bomb in the Amrapali Open Cast Project of CCL under Tandwa Police
Station of Chatra District of Jharkhand. Three personnel have
been reported to be injured in the blast. Police have recovered
hand-written pamphlets which talks about stopping work in Amrapali
and its adjacent mine, Magadh. The newly raised SISF will be deployed
at the CCL's Amrapali coal project.
January 28. CRPF jawan was killed in an explosion
of a pressure bomb allegedly planted by CPI-Maoist cadres near
Kottacheru village under Bhejji Police Station limits in Sukma
District of Chhattisgarh. The deceased, Havaldar Parasnath Saroj,
was posted with the 219th battalion of CRPF, senior Police officials
said. "A road construction work was going on in the area and a
CRPF team was patrolling when Saroj accidentally stepped on the
pressure bomb and suffered serious injuries," the Police officials
said. Later, he succumbed to his injuries.
January 24.The CPI-Maoist cadres triggered an
IED blast in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. The blast took
place when SFs were patrolling between Timmapur and Murdanda.
A sniffer dog, named 'Pluto' died in the blast.
January 23.Ranjan Bala and his son Indrajit Bala
(17) were injured in an IED blast triggered by the Naxals
on an under-construction road in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place near Malempalli village under Jagargunda
Police Station limits while the victims were on way to Dornapal
in their motorcycle.
January 18.Two women and a minor girl were killed
while four others were injured when an IED, planted by the CPI-Maoist
cadres, exploded in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh.
January 17. A handler of a sniffer dog, PK Samal,
was injured and 'Aminika', a sniffer dog belonging to CoBRA
battalion, was killed in an IED blast by CPI-Maoist cadres in
Buda Pahar area in Latehar District of Jharkhand.
January 13: Six SF personnel were injured in an
IED blast in Burha Pahari area of Latehar District of Jharkhand.
The blast took place during an encounter with the cadres of the
CPI-Maoist. Officials said that three explosions took place first
around 5:30 AM, then another took place around 10 AM and then
again at 1 PM. Two Assistant Commandants of CRPF, one head constable
and two SIs and a Jharkhand Police jawan were injured.
January 12: A CRPF jawan and a sniffer dog were
injured in a pressure bomb blast allegedly triggered by CPI-Maoist
cadres in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. The incident took
place when a ROP of CRPF's 85th battalion was out to ensure security
to a patch on Bijapur-Bhopalpattanam road. When the party reached
