The Bengal and Assam Governments, central agencies and Military Intelligence are coordinating to neutralise the upsurge in the KLO's activities.

In a recent press release by the KLO 'general secretary' Kailash Koch, the organisation has threatened the Bengal and Assam governments that it might target refugees in north Bengal and lower Assam districts, if the alleged torturing of the Koch-Rajbongshi did not stop. Unless the Bengal and Assam Governments stop this and release the arrested people, we might be compelled to take action against Bengali refugees," the statement said.

State Police announced cash rewards of INR 6.2 miilion for those who can provide information about 11 militants of the KLO and seven cadres of the NDFB-IKS. The KLO list includes four top leaders, 'commander-in-chief' Nityananda Sarkar alias Shyam Ray, 'general secretary' Keshab Barman, 'assistant organising secretary' Lal Chand Deka and 'cultural secretary' Digambar Rai alias Jibon Koch. Cash rewards of INR 500,000 each have been announced against the quartet while INR 300,000 each will be given for information provided on another seven cadres.

An IED was recovered from Jadumani village under Fakiragram police station in Kokrajhar District in the wee hours. The security forces also arrested two cadres of KLO Sources from Police said a team of Police and security personnel raided the Jadumoni area getting specific information and recovered the powerful IED weighing around 4 kg from a forest area in the village. They also said the bomb was brought by the KLO. Sources also said two KLO militants, identified as Kripa Ray and Jayanta Ray, who is also the vice-president of Fakiragram unit of AKRSU were arrested for indulging in importing IED.

July 2 Chandamari/ Kokrajhar

KLO militant Bhabananda Rai was killed in an encounter with Police at Chandamari forest under Kokrajhar District. Police also recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine with four rounds of ammunition, including two empty cartridges, and two hand grenades from his possession.
