Four security
force (SF) personnel, including a Deputy Commandant of the
Border Security Force (BSF), one civilian and two terrorists
are killed and four persons, including a security officer,
sustain injuries when a two-member Fidayeen (suicide
squad) attacked the Income Tax (IT) office in the capital
Srinagar. The multi-storeyed building housing the IT office
caught fire during the gun-battle. Over 70 people, including
50 officials of the IT Department and visitors, trapped
inside are later rescued. The Al-Mansooran, suspected to
be a front outfit of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), claimed
responsibility for the attack.

February 24
|
Three police
personnel, a woman employee of the Revenue Department and
two terrorists are killed and four persons sustain injuries
during a Fidayeen attack at the Divisional Commissioner's
office in the capital Srinagar. Al Badr outfit has taken
responsibility for the attack and identified the terrorists
as Irfan Bhai and Sikandar Bhai, residents of Gujarat in
Pakistan.

|
Two terrorists
and a paramilitary soldier are killed when a group of two
Fidayeen terrorists attempted to storm a BSF post
at Arampora in the Sopore town of Baramulla district.

April 6
|
Two Fidayeen
terrorists attack the Tourist Reception Centre in the
heart of Srinagar, accommodating 24 passengers of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad
bus. Both the terrorists are killed in the ensuing gun-battle
and seven persons are injured. 45 persons, including the
passengers, are subsequently evacuated to safety. The entire
building, housing a number of departments including Tourism,
Wildlife, Fisheries, State Road Transport Corporation, J&K
Tourism Development Corporation, Northern Railways, Post
Office, and Indian Airlines, is destroyed in the blaze.
Four terrorist groups, the Al-Nasireen, Save Kashmir Movement,
Al-Arifeen and Farzandan-e-Millat, claimed responsibility
for the attack.

|
Two suicide
squad terrorists and a civilian are killed while three police
personnel sustain injuries when the latter repulsed a terrorist
attack at Commando Group and Sub-Divisional Police Office
in the Mendhar town of Poonch district.

|
A Major of
the Indian Army and two soldiers are among five people killed
and 17 persons sustain injuries when a suspected suicide
bomber rammed an explosive-laden car into an Army vehicle
near Burnhall School in the high-security civil lines area
of Srinagar. The Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) claimed responsibility
for the attack.

July 29
|
In an attack
at Budshah Chowk in the heart of the capital city of Srinagar,
terrorists kill two security force (SF) personnel and injure
at least 18 civilians, including ten journalists, and four
SF personnel. The Al-Mansooran outfit has claimed responsibility
for the ‘suicide attack’. The Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen and J&K
Islamic Front have also made separate claims.

October 7
|
Troops foil
a suicide squad attack on a BSF camp at the State Bank of
India complex in the Sopore area of Baramulla district,
killing two terrorists. One soldier dies and 10 others sustain
injuries in the exchange of fire between the SFs and terrorists.

November 2
|
A few hours
before the swearing in of Ghulam Nabi Azad as the tenth
Chief Minister (CM) of Jammu and Kashmir on, a Fidayeen
terrorist detonated a powerful car bomb in the Nowgam
area of capital Srinagar near the old residence of outgoing
CM, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, killing at least 10 people and
injuring 18 others. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has taken responsibility
for the attack.

November 14
|
Two soldiers
of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and an equal
number of civilians are killed while 17 persons, including
a Japanese journalist, sustain injuries when terrorists
carried out a Fidayeen attack at the business hub
of Lalchowk in the capital city of Srinagar. After six hours
of the cordon-and-search operation, Police managed to rescue
as many as 70 civilians. The Al-Mansooran has taken responsibility
for the attack.

|
In a Fidayeen
attack at Hawal in the outskirts of capital Srinagar,
two terrorists and three SF personnel are killed while seven
persons are wounded when the former stormed a CRPF company
headquarters.
