Terrorism-related Incidents outside the Northeast and Colombo - 2010

December 14: Police recovered one 0.9 mm pistol in Negombo Police area of Gampaha District.

December 1: Troops in the south recovered one hand grenade from Lunugala Police area in Badulla District.

November 15: Police recovered one 12 bore gun from the general area of Baduraliya in Kalutara District in the South.

November 14: Troops in the east recovered two T-56 weapons, two T-56 magazines, 60 rounds of T-56 ammunition and six hand grenades in Muthugala in Polonnaruwa District.

November 9: Police in a search operation recovered one 12 bore gun, 19 rounds of ammunition and one hand grenade from Maradana (in Colombo District) and Katunayake (in Gampaha District) areas in the West.

October 14: The Police also recovered 400 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 detonators and one hand grenade from Wattala and Ganemulla areas in Gampaha District in Western Sri Lanka.

July 18: Police on a tip off recoverd one hand grenade from Saliyapura area in Anuradhapura District of North Central province on July 18, according to Sri Lanka Army report.

June 9: The Police recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, four shotguns, one sword and a bag of flesh from Aselapura and Pussellawa area of Kandy District during search operations.

May 7: Police recovered 13 claymore mines, three firing devices and eight Light Machine Gun (LMG) links with ammunition from Murusumoddai area of Kurunegala District during a search operation.

May 4: The Mathugama Police recovered one hand grenade from Kalutara area.

April 18: Troops on a tip-off recovered two hand grenades, two kilograms of cannabis and five rounds of 7.62 x 38 mm ammunition from Matihakwala under Openayake Police Division area in Ratnapura District.

April 20: Troops engaged in de-mining work found four anti-personnel mines from Kandakadu area in the Polonnaruwa District.

April 11: Troops in the east recovered two T-56 weapons, three 120-mm mortar bombs, five detonators, one hand grenade, two T-56 ammunition boxes and one unidentified grenade launcher from Kaluwankerni area in Batticaloa during a search operation.

March 23: Troops during search and clear operations in Kaduwela and Welikada areas of Colombo and Gampaha Districts of Western Province recovered two hand grenades.

March 4: Troops during search and clear operations in Puthukkudiyiruppu area of Anuradhapura District recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, two 60-mm mortar fuses, 48 explosive devices and four hand grenades. 

February 28: Police during search operations in the Senapura area of Polonnaruwa District recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 15 40-mm grenades, 49 rounds of 12.4 ammunition and five T-56 magazines.

February 22: Troops recovered one hand grenade during search and clear operation at Nittambuwa area in Gampaha District.

February 3: Police recovered a stock of arms and ammunition left behind by the LTTE cadres at Alanchipotha in Welikanda area of Polonnaruwa District.

February 2: Sri Lanka Police arrested a suspected LTTE cadre in connection with the 2006 bomb attack on a bus in Kebithigollewa in North Central Province. The claymore attack on June 15, 2006 on a morning commuter bus killed 64 civilians including school children and injured scores. A special Police team of the Thenuwara Police has taken the suspect into custody and further investigations are being carried out. The suspect, Mahilingam Muthulingam, also known as Indran, had joined The LTTE in 1990 and was a member of the Charles Anthony Brigade. According to a statement given by the suspect to the Police, eight LTTE cadres were involved in the attack.

January 24: Menikhinna Police in Kandy recovered several rounds of T-56 ammunition, two T-56 blank ammunition and four rounds of riot control ammunition.
