• December 31:Troops on their search and clear operations in Varani, Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Kokkutuduvai and Muruthanpuwal areas in the North recovered three hand grenades, 46 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), 24 T-81 bombs, one 81-mm Para bomb, one trapping, 64 60-mm mortar bombs and one 12 kg claymore mine on December 30.

  Police recovered two 81-mm mortar bombs from Serunuwara in Trincomalee District in the East.

• December 29: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Kokkutuduvai and Madhu areas in the North recovered 11 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs) and two 60-mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups recovered 37 APMs and 107 81-mm mortar bombs from Mahilankulam and Kokkutuduvai areas.

• December 28: Troops on their search and clear operations in Mankulam area in the North recovered two 60-mm mortar bombs.

• December 27: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Madhu, Kokkutuduvai and Iranamadu areas in the North recovered 15 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 10 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and eight Jonny mines.

  De-mining groups recovered 25 APMs from Mahilankulam area.

• December 26: Sri Lanka Government rejected a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report that had claimed that the LLRC appointed by the President Mahinda Rajapakse was biased in favour of the LTTE.

  The Sri Lankan Government declared that steps would be taken to expedite the release of detained members of the LTTE after their rehabilitation.

• December 23: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Monarawewa, Kokkutuduvai and Puthukudiyirippu areas in the North recovered 48 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two LTTE photo albums, one LTTE document book and one cassette.

  Troops recovered two mobile phones, two phone batteries, two Sim cards and three Nokia chargers from the Technical College Rehabilitation Centre.

  De-mining groups recovered 281 APMs, 35 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 18 hand grenades, 13 81-mm mortar bombs, one 120-mm mortar bomb, three 122-mm mortar bombs, four 152-mm mortar bombs and one Arul bomb from Mahilankulam, Kokkutuduvai and Paranthan areas.

• December 22: Troops on their search and clear operations in Jaffna, Kollankulam, Chemamadu, Alakallapottukulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Kokkutuduvai, Urithirapuram and Mulliyaveli areas in the North recovered five hand grenades, 68 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two 81-mm mortar bombs, 314 rounds of T-56 ammunition, six magazines and one Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) jacket.

  De-mining groups recovered 159 APMs from Mahilankulam and Kokkutuduway.

• December 19: Troops on their search and clear operations in Suthumalai, Visuamadukulam, Pallavilkulam, Iranamadukulam, Iranapalai and Kombavil areas in the north recovered 28 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), four 60-mm mortar bombs, 11 hand grenades, four 40-mm grenade launcher bombs, one electric mine, 140 electric detonators, 13 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 200 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition and 150 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

  De-mining groups recovered twenty-two anti personnel mines from Iranamadu area.

  In the meantime, Air Force troops recovered three CDs, one T-56 magazine, two data cables, one LTTE identity card and one unidentified electric item from Karadiyanaru in Batticaloa District.

• December 17: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Monarawewa, Kokkuthuduwai, Adampan, Andankulam and Wellamullivaikkal areas in the North recovered 59 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), one 60-mm mortar bomb, one hand grenade, three rounds of T-56 ammunition, one APM fuse, one claymore mine and 2350 rounds of 5.6 x 22 mm rocket launcher ammunition.

  De-mining groups recovered 274 APMs and one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) from Navatkulam, Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Sinnapandivirichchan and Iranamadu areas.

• December 16: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Ariyalai, Alaveddi, Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Madhu and Monarawewa areas in the North recovered one T-56 weapon, one hand grenade and 22 Anti Personnel Mines(APMs).

  De-mining groups recovered 173 APMs, 134 Jonny mines and eight electronic mines from Navatkulam, Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Periyathampanai, Marathamadu, Maruthamadu, Gajabapura, Kokkuthuduwai, Adampan and Iranamadu areas.

  LTTE is planning to launch spectacular strikes on high-profile targets like Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

  De-mining groups recovered 374 APMs, four anti tank mines, two RPGs and one 81-mm mortar bomb from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Periyathampanai, Maruthamadu, Gajabapura, Kokkuthuduway, Akkarayankulam and Ramanathapuram areas.

• December 14: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Alakallapottukulam, Monarawewa, Visuamadu, Iranamadu, Vannivilankulam and Puthukudiyirippu areas in the North recovered 54 Anti Personnel Mines(APMs), three hand grenades, three 81-mm mortar bombs, one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and 5000 detonators.

  In the meantime, troops recovered one mobile phone and one SIM card from Marathamadu rehabilitation centre.

  De-mining groups recovered two hundred and twenty-one anti personnel mines from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Periyathampanai, Marathamadu, Kokkuthuduway, Adampan and Akkarayankulam areas.

  Troops in the East recovered three APMs and one 81-mm mortar bomb from Kinniady area of Batticaloa District.

  Police recovered one 0.9 mm pistol in Negombo Police area of Gampaha District.

• December 13: Warakapola Police in South recovered seven dead bodies along with one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, 30 rounds of T-56 ammunition and three hand grenades.

  De-mining groups recovered 302 APMs from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Periyathampanai, Marathamadu, Kokkuthuduway, Kokilai and Iranamadu areas.

• December 12: Troops on their search and clear operations in Mahasivan, Manthottam, Alagallupottukulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Kokkuthuduwai and Chankiyenkulam areas in the North recovered two Arul bombs, 38 Anti Personnel Mines(APM), one round of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher ammunition and one 81-mm mortar bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 169 APMs from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Marathamadu, Monarawewa, Gajabapura and Iranamadu.

• December 10: Troops on their search and clear operations Kirudavil, Alagallupottukulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Kokkutuduwai, Udayarkattukulam and Santhiweli areas in the North recovered 39 Anti Personnel Mines( APMs), three 81-mm mortar bombs, one unidentified bomb and one charger.

  De-mining groups recovered 140 APMs, six jonny mines and two anti tank mines from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Marathamadu, Kokkutuduwai, Akkarayankulam and Iranamadu areas.

• December 9: Troops on their search and clear operations in Thanankilappu, Monarawewa, Kokkuthuduwai, Visuamadu and Mulleyaveli areas in the North recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), five hand grenades, 42 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 30 60- mm mortar bombs, 20 60-mm mortar bomb fuses, five 60-mm mortar bomb chargers and one 40 -mm bomb.

  Police recovered seven hand grenades, one 120-mm mortar bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb, one 60-mm mortar bomb, five claymore mines, nine electric detonators, 67 Jonny mines and 257 APM fuses from Muruthankulam area.

  De-mining groups recovered 112 APMs, one 81-mm mortar bomb, one 60mm mortar -bomb and one grenade launcher bomb from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Marathamadu, Kokkuthuduwai and Paranthan areas.

• December 8: Troops on their search and clear operations in Monarawewa, Kokkutuduwai, Kilinochchi and Pannankandi areas in the North recovered nine Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), four hand grenades and one 81-mm mortar bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 69 APMs and one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb from Kokkutuduwai, Kokilai, Pudumurippu, Shivanagar, Malayanpuram and Barathipuram areas.

  The Sri Lankan Government said that the LTTE militants had executed Sri Lankan Security Forces personnel imprisoned by them during the final stages of the war in 2009.

• December 7: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Thirunavely, Kanagarayankulam, Alagallupottukulam, Monarawewa and Kokkutuduwai areas in the North recovered three hand grenades, four 130-mm artillery rounds, 35 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs) and one 50-mm mortar bomb on December 7.

  De-mining groups recovered 109 APMs and seven anti-tank mines from Mahilankulam and Omanthai areas

  Thai Police arrested 50 illegal Sri Lankan immigrants in Bangkok. Suspected members of the LTTE were believed to be among the arrestees.

  Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Hambanthota District Parliamentarian (MP) Sajith Premadasa said that only the LTTE members had committed war crimes in Sri Lanka.

  Police recovered one hand grenade from Eravur area in Batticaloa District.

  De-mining groups recovered 107 Jonny mines, 110APMs , two hand grenades, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs) and two 81-mm mortar bombs from Mahilankulam, Piramanalankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Kovilpuliyankulam, Periyathampanai and Akkarayankulam areas.

• November 19: Troops on their search and clear operations in Sinnapurawasamkulam, Gnanimadam, Akkarayankulam and Kulamurippu areas in the North recovered four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one 81-mm mortar bomb and one hand grenade.

  A Major General told the Colombo High Court that Sri Lanka Defence Secretary had given clear instructions to the Security Forces not to shoot any one who was surrendering to them during the final stages of Sri Lanka's war with the LTTE.

  De-mining groups recovered four 473 APMs, 49 Jonny mines, one 81-mm mortar bomb, one RPG, 19 60-mm mortar bombs and one claymore mine from Kallikulam, Mahilankulam, Mailankulam, Omanthai, Periyathampanai, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Piramanalankulam, Kovilpuliyankulam, Tachchanamaruthamdhu and Vilathikulam areas.

• November 12: Troops on their search and clear operations in Ariyalai, Kollankulam, Arasankulam, Alakallakuttikulam, Madhu, Pulmudai, Monarawewa and Yahalegama recovered 50 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), three 81-mm mortar bombs, two hand grenades and 40 T-56 barrels.

  De-mining groups recovered 282 APMs, one 81-mm mortar bomb and one 85 mm mortar bomb from Kallikkulam, Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Kodypuliyankulam and Kokilai areas.

  Observing that the LTTE still remains a threat to the country's security, Justice Vikramajit Sen of the Delhi High Court, constituting the one-man Tribunal, on November 12, upheld the May 14, 2010 notification of the Centre extending the ban on the outfit for two years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, reports The Hindu.The Tribunal maintained that there was sufficient evidence that pro-LTTE elements and remnant LTTE cadres, with the help of local smugglers, were actively participating in unlawful activities in the country.

• November 3: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Adampan, Visuamadu, Vellamulliwaikkal and Wedumunai areas in the North recovered 10 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 15 60-mm mortar bombs, one 85 trapping, 37 hand grenades, three T-56 magazines, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one T-56 weapon, two rounds of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) ammunition, one 81-mm mortar bomb, 87 rounds of 17.5-mm ammunition and three Arul bombs.

  De-mining groups recovered five 60-mm mortar bombs and four 440 APMs from Mahilankulam, Navatkulam, Piramanalankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Mundumurippu, Gajabapura, Ethawetunuwewa, Kokkutuduwai and Adampan areas.

• November 2: Justice Vikramajit Sen tribunal reserved the verdict on the validity of the May 14, 2010 notification of the Centre, first imposed on Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 1992 on extending the ban on the LTTE for two years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The one-man tribunal is mandated to give its verdict within six months of the notification, which is due to expire on November 13.Tamil Nadu Government told the tribunal that LTTE cadres were still active in the state and lifting the ban would make it difficult to control them.

• November 1: Troops on their search and clear operations in Allarai, Kollankulam, Mahilankulam, Navatkulam, 10th Mile Post, Kilinochchi, Iranamadu, Murusumoddai and Mankulam areas in the North recovered 34 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one 120-mm mortar bomb, four 60 mm mortar bombs, eight hand grenades and one smoke bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 31 Jonny mines and 213 APMs from Mahilankulam, Kannadi, Piramanalankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Gajabapura and Kokkutuduwai areas.

  The Indian Government maintained that there is enough material on record for extending the ban on the militant outfit LTTE for another two years from May 14, 2010 under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Additional Solicitor-General (ASG) A.S. Chandhikok made this submission before Justice Vikramajit Sen of the Delhi High Court, who constitutes the one-man tribunal hearing arguments on the validity of the notification extending the ban. The ASG read out material to show that LTTE leaders, operatives and supporters had been inimically opposed to India's policy on their organisation, and the outfit continued its unlawful activities, using remnant cadres as well as local smugglers and pro-LTTE operatives for procuring explosives, detonators, chemicals and ammunition. Various cases registered against LTTE cadres, sympathisers and agents under the Act and other provisions of law would amply prove that the outfit, though based in Sri Lanka, had sympathisers, supporters and agents in India to carry out unlawful acts for the organisation, he pointed out. The ASG also observed that clandestine support was being extended to the LTTE by Sri Lankan Tamils who entered India in the guise of refugees and indulged in smuggling of even narcotic drugs to raise money for their activities.

• October 31: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kanagarayankulam, Perimkulam, Murusamoddai, Iranamadu, Visuamadu and Mallavi areas in the North recovered two 152-mm artillery shells, 39 130-mm artillery shells, three 122-mm artillery shells, one 25-mm pounder shell, seven hand grenades, one Arul bomb, one unidentified bomb, two 60-mm mortar bombs and one 81-mm mortar bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 135 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs) from Mahilankulam, Kannaddi, Piramanalankulam and Maruthamadu areas.

• October 29: Troops on their search and clear operations in Niliyamotai, Kollankulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Madhu, Marathodei and Mallavi areas in the North recovered one claymore mine, 130 electric detonators, one 6-m long detonator code, 17 vehicle magnet bombs, 41 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), one Honda motor bicycle engine, two bicycle paddles, six bolt nails, one cogwheel, one break liner, one motor bicycle helmet, one non electric detonator and 10 kg of C-4 explosives.

  De-mining groups recovered 267 APMs from Mahilankulam, Puthuvilankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan, Maruthamadu, Kokkutuduwi and Kokkali areas.

• October 28: Troops on their search and clear operations in the Achchelu, Point Pedro, Kollankulam, Puliyankulam, Navatkulam, Mundumuruppu, Monarawewa and Iranamadu areas in the North recovered 10 hand grenades, 16 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two 60-mm mortar bombs and three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG).

  De-mining groups recovered 186 APMs from Mahilankulam, Maruthamadu and Mundumuruppu areas.

  The British Prime Minister David Cameron said that there should be an independent investigation into what happened during the decisive phase of Sri Lanka's war against the LTTE in 2009. Cameron made this observation while responding to a query by the opposition Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) Siobhain McDonagh on the assassination and civil rights abuses allegedly taking place in Sri Lanka. "We need to see an independent investigation of what happened. Everyone has read the papers and seen the TV footage, but we need an independent investigation to work out whether what she suggests is right," he said. However, he did not call for an international war crime tribunal as the opposition MP suggested.

• October 27: The Colombo High Court sentenced a cadre of the LTTE to 30 years rigorous imprisonment for delivering a bomb to assassinate former President Chandrika Kumaranatunga on December 18, 1999. Colombo High Court Judge W.T.M.P.D. Waraweva delivered the sentence against the accused Sathyavel Ilangeshwaram who was 19 years old at the time of the bombing. Ilangeshwaram and six others including a woman were accused on counts related to conspiring to assassinate the former President. Kumaranatunga lost an eye due to the bomb attack that targeted her at the final propaganda rally of the 1999 Presidential election. Twenty six persons were killed and 80 others were injured in the incident.

  Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Mundumuruppu, Pulmudei, Marathodei, Iranamadu, Visuamadu, Murusumuddai, Veddukadupoonaryne, Mankulam, Kokavil and Ampalawanpokkanai recovered 56 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 13 hand grenades, nine Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), two Arul bombs, 20 81-mm mortar bombs, one round of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) ammunition, 3000 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 37 60-mm mortar bombs, eight electric detonators, one T-56 weapon, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) barrel and parts of a 60-mm mortar.

  De-mining groups recovered 347 APMs from Mahilankulam, Omanthai, Maruthamadu, Mundumuruppu, Kokkutuduwi and Kokilai areas.

  De-mining groups recovered 220 APMs and 32 Jonny mines from Mahilankulam, Piramanalankulam, Maruthamadu, Kukkuthuduwai, Kokilai and Pulmudai areas.

• October 25: Troops on their search and clear operations in Achchelu, Ariyalai, Kollankulam, Arasankulam, Malayapariththakulam, Omanthai, Morawewa, Iranamadu, Sinnaparanthan, Mankulam and Oddusudan areas in the North recovered 14 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), seven Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), six RPG cartridges, four 60-mm mortar bombs, 23 81-mm mortar bombs, two boxes of T-56 ammunition, two Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs), one anti tank mine, 36 T-56 magazines, 12 T-81 magazines, 31 rounds of FMC ammunition, 49 rounds of pistol ammunition, 251 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 12 detonators, 85 rounds of 0.50-mm ammunition, one 9-mm pistol magazine, one MPMG barrel, seven Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) packs, one LTTE belt, five Light Machine Gun drums, six hand grenades, one improvised magazine, 200 rounds of MPMG ammunition and a part of a T-56 weapon.

  De-mining groups also recovered 280 APMs and one RPG from Mahilankulam, Piramanalankulam, Maruthamadu, Kokkutuduwi, Kokilai, Marathodei and Kilinochchi areas.

  A designated court for Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) cases in Chennai in Tamil Nadu dropped all charges against Velupillai Prabhakaran, the slain Chief of LTTE, and his trusted lieutenant and LTTE intelligence Chief Pottu Amman on the basis of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report. This is the first official acknowledgment by India of Prabhakaran's death.

• October 24: The Government will indict some 1,000 former LTTE cadres in custody on charges of involvement in terrorism during the nearly three decades ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka that came to an end in May 2009. D.E.W. Gunasekara, Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister, said these former LTTE cadres are being held on charges of their involvement in terrorism. According to the Colombo Page, the Government has decided to indict some 1,000 former LTTE cadres who are currently in custody and release 23 former women LTTE cadres on October 25 (today). Gunasekara said the Government has so far rehabilitated and released some 4,460 former LTTE cadres, including 304 females. The Government continues to screen refugees in military-run camps for LTTE militants.

• October 23: The Central Province Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) arrested a former Vice Chairman of the Talawakelle Urban Council allegedly for aiding and abetting LTTE terrorist activities. Police have received information that the suspect had taken estate youth for arms training in the North and has assisted the LTTE in transporting explosives to the estates. The TID also took into custody two T56 rifles that had had been buried in an estate in Talawakele,

  Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commissioner General of Essential Services, said that 306 former LTTE militants are to be released after rehabilitation. "We will be releasing 306 of them this afternoon", Ranasinghe said, adding that over 4,000 of them had been rehabilitated and released. "We hope to complete the release of all female ex-combatants rehabilitated by the end of this month", Ranasinghe added. Some 11000 ex-LTTE militants either surrendered or were arrested by the military at the conclusion of the Eelam War IV in May 2009.

• October 18: A federal jury in Baltimore has convicted a Singapore national of conspiring to provide weapons to the LTTE operating in Sri Lanka, the US Justice Department said on October 18, reports Daily News. Balraj Naidu (48) was charged in a conspiracy to provide material support to the LTTE designated in 1997 by the US Department of State as a foreign terrorist organization. According to evidence presented at his trial, Naidu and four co-conspirators arranged to buy some 28 tons of US-made weapons and ammunition from an undercover business in Maryland. The LTTE representatives made a $250,000 down-payment on the $900,000 weapons deal with the bogus company in the summer of 2006, the Justice Department said. Naidu’s partners were arrested in September 2006, after inspecting the weapons that had been delivered to Guam and making another payment of $450,000 to the undercover business, the Justice Department said. Naidu was arrested after a further investigation, it said. US officials said the group also had tried to buy weapons from China, Thailand, North Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia for the LTTE to be used against Sri Lankan government forces. Naidu faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The co-conspirators, Thirunavukarasu Varatharasa, 40, of Sri Lanka Haji Subandi, 73, and retired Indonesian Marine Corps General Erick Wotulo, 62, both Indonesians and Haniffa Bin Osman, 59, of Singapore, all pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 57 months, 37 months, 30 months and 37 months in prison, respectively. The US designation as a foreign terrorist organization barred the group from legally raising money or buying operational equipment in the US.

• October 15: Over 500 former LTTE cadres, who successfully completed their rehabilitation program at the Vavuniya rehabilitation centre, were handed over to their parents. The ex-combatants were rehabilitated with vocational training at rehabilitation centres to prepare them to earn a living. They were also provided industrial training in various fields including computer literacy, welding, handicraft, fabric industry and beauty culture. The Government plans to release another 2,000 rehabilitated former LTTE cadres next month. Over 11,000 ex-LTTE cadres surrendered to the Security Forces during the final stages of the Eelam War IV and they were being rehabilitated at centres in Vavuniya.

• October 14: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kilinochchi, Visuamadu, Murusumoddai and Mulliyavelei areas in the North recovered three hand grenades and one 60-mm mortar bomb.

  Troops in the East recovered two T-56 weapons, two T-56 magazines, 1500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, three hand grenades, one claymore mine weighing about four kilograms, two Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 47 40-mm grenades and 20 metres long detonator cord from Punnakudah in Batticaloa District.

  The Police also recovered 400 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 detonators and one hand grenade from Wattala and Ganemulla areas in Gampaha District in Western Sri Lanka.

• October 13: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Kunchukulam, Navatkulam, Monarawewa, Maratodi, Maradankadawala, Iranamadu, Paranthan, Kandavalai, Tharmapuram, Puthukkudiyiruppu and Wellamullivaikkal areas in the North recovered 48 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), eight hand grenades, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one box of T-56 ammunition, 15 81-mm mortar fuses, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) link, one 120-mm mortar bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb, a part of MPMG tripod, 1405 rounds of T-56 ammunition, four rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition, five rounds of 23-mm shotgun ammunition, 39 trappings and seven tarpaulin roles.

  De-mining groups recovered 655 APMs, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs) and 55 bombs from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Malawarayankaddaiadappan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Chinnavalayankaddu, Ethawetunuwewa, Kokkuthuduwai, Adampan and Iranamadu areas.

• October 12: Troops on their search and clear operations in Manikkawasa, Kollankulam, Arasamurippu, Madhu, Panankaman, Monarawewa, Marathodi, Iranamadu and Buffalo Island areas in the North recovered six hand grenades, 77 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two 81-mm mortar bombs, three claymore mines, 500 grams of C-4 explosives, one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb, two T-56 weapons, six T-56 magazines, 212 rounds of T-56 ammunition, four Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) and 12 60-mm mortar bomb fuses.

  De-mining groups recovered 395APMs, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb from Mahilankulam, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Ethawetunuwewa, Kokkuthuduwai, Kilinochchi and Iranamadu areas.

• October 10: Troops on their search and clear operations in Pannankaman, Kokilai, Visuamadu, Murusamudai, Uriyan, Udayarkaddu and Thirukkovil areas in the North recovered eight Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), eight hand grenades, six 60-mm mortar bombs, two 81-mm mortar bombs, 23 120-mm mortar bombs, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), 1500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one unidentified bomb and 11 light air craft bombs.

  De-mining groups recovered one 166 APMs, five RPGs, four hand grenades and two 60-mm mortar bombs from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu and Gajabapura areas.
  
  The Thai immigration officials with the aid of the Crime Suppression Division of Thai Police raided several apartments in Bangkok and arrested 155 illegal Sri Lankan immigrants. According to Thai media reports the Government suspected the illegal Tamil immigrants to be a part of a group seeking to travel to Canada as refugees. Many of the migrants were without travel documents or valid visas. Also, Intelligence information revealed that a number of LTTE) militants were among the Sri Lankan illegal immigrants living in Thailand waiting to seek asylum in a third country, mainly Canada.

• October 9: Troops on their search and clear operations in Pandrikaththrikulam, Periyamadu, Panikaniravu, Puliyankulam, Monarawewa, Maratodi, Ampakamam, Chalai, Thalawaya, Gatahetta and Thalampitiya areas recovered one 81-mm mortar bomb, one round of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) ammunition, one 60- mm mortar bomb, 200 electric detonators, 35 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), three hand grenades, one T-56 weapon, two T-56 magazines, 69 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 44 rounds of 45-mm live ammunition, 40 rounds of 58-mm live ammunition, 49 rounds of 357 live ammunition and 23 rounds of 11 CO ammunition.

  Demining groups recovered 262 APMs, two electric mines, four APM fuses, one 60-mm mortar bomb, two trappings and one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Adampan, Ethawetunuwewa, Puthumattalan and Visuamadukulam areas.

• October 8: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Omanthai Old Railway, Monarawewa, Maratodi, Kilinochchi, Visuamadu, Olumadu, Valaimadom and Suthanthirapuram areas in the North recovered 75 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), four anti tank mines, 14 hand grenades, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one booby trap, 4620 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 14 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 12 rounds of 12.7x108 ammunition, 15 APM fuses, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), parts of T-56 weapon, one T-56 receiving cover, a part of shotgun, two shot gun barrels and 13 T-56 magazines.

  Demining groups recovered 560 APMs, two electric mines, one anti tank mine, two trappings, two 81-mm mortar bomb and two hand grenades from Mahilankulam, Mahaduwa, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Keerisuddan, Gajabapura, Kokkuthuduwai and Thevipuram areas.
  
  Canadian authorities are searching for evidence of a possible second ship suspected of smuggling Sri Lankan Tamil migrants to Canada. Canada's public safety officers are using satellites and hi-tech eaves dropping equipment to locate and pick up signals from the suspected vessel to determine whether the ship is smuggling migrants from Sri Lanka. An investigative report in August revealed that an alleged LTTE human-smuggling ring is preparing to smuggle another shipload of Tamils who have left Sri Lanka to be sent to Canada.

• October 7: Troops on their search and clear operations in the general areas of Point Pedro, Navatkulam, Omanthai, Madhu, Pannankaman, Monarawewa, Maratodi, Visuamadu, Olumadu and Puthukkuddiyirippu recovered 112 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), two Jonny mines, one Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) round, five Anti Tank Mines, four 60-mm mortar bombs and three hand grenades.

  Demining groups recovered 821 APMs, 34 Jonny mines and one T-58 magazine from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Gajabapura, Ethawetunawewa and Visuamadu areas.

• October 6: Troops on their search and clear operations in Thampalai, Katkovalam, Kollankulam, Omanthai, Pandrikaththikulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Visuamadu, Murusamoddai, Andankulam and Mankulam areas in the North recovered 30 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), four hand grenades, two rounds of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL), one anti tank mine, one 81-mm mortar bomb, two 81-mm mortar bomb fuses and one claymore mine on October 6.

  Demining groups recovered 180APMs, one 81-mm mortar bomb and one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) trapping from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthankulam, Ilamaruthankulam, Adampan and Manikkapuram areas.

• October 5: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Madhu, Monarawewa, Ethawetunuwewa, Maruthodai, Iranamadu, Thenniyankulam, Olumadu, Alampil, Kachchilamadu and Udayarukattukulam Areas in the North recovered 41 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two anti-tank mines, 26 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 11 hand grenades, 500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, four 81-mm mortar bombs, one thermo baric weapon, one 120-mm mortar bomb and one pressure mine on October 5.

  Meanwhile, demining groups recovered 539APMs, 27 Jonny mines and one hand grenade from Kallikulam, Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Piramanalankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu and Kokutuduwai areas.

• October 4: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Iranamadu, Visuamadu, Ampakamam and Tekilpadanthan areas in the North recovered 41 60-mm mortar bombs, seven 81-mm mortar bombs, eight Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), five hand grenades, five Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), one pressure mine, one round of 130-mm artillery shell, body part of a T-56 weapon, 220 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 40 rounds of 7.62 x 108 Armour-Piercing Incendiary ammunition on October 4.

• October 3: Troops on their search and clear operations in Paranthan, Visuamadu and Kiranchi areas in the North recovered one T-56 weapon, 15 hand grenades, one shot gun and a part of a shot gun.

  De-mining groups recovered 187 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 32 81-mm mortar bombs and six 60-mm mortar bombs from Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Ilamaruthankulam, Piramanalankulam, Kannadi, Iranailuppaikulam and Ethawetunawewa areas.

• September 29: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Kallikulam, Monarawewa, Visuamadu and Kovilkuchchikulam recovered 15 Anti Personnel Mines (APM), one 60-mm mortar bomb, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), three hand grenades, 218 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 167 rounds of T-56 ammunition and 178 rounds of 12.7 x 108-mm ammunition.

  Demining groups recovered 184 APMs, 12 hand grenades, one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb, three Jumping mines, 21 rounds of 12.7 x 108-mm ammunition, two RPGs and 20 Jonny mines from Kollarpuliyankulam, Mahilankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Maruthamadu and Ilamaruthankulam areas.

• September 27: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Nainamadu, Kallikulam, Omanthai, Navatkulam, Monarawewa, Janakapura, Maratodi, Visuamadukulam, Kokavil and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas in the North recovered 92 Anti Personnel Mines APMs), one T-56 weapon, one magazine, six hand grenades, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one 60-mm mortar bomb, two Motorola communication hand sets, one round of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 17 rounds of pistol ammunition and one burnt weapon butt on September 27.

  Demining groups also recovered 120 APMs and 14 Jonny mines from Mahilankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan and Ilamaruthankulam areas.

• September 25: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Kallikulamkulam, Omanthai Old Railway Road, Madhu, Parakramapura, Monarawewa, Maratodi, Iranamadu and Visuamadu areas in the North recovered 49 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs) parts of a T-56 weapon, two hand grenades, two booby traps, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), two 60-mm mortar bombs, one 81-mm mortar bomb and one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb.

  Demining groups recovered 684 APMs,15 Jonny mines, 26 unidentified bombs and two 60-mm mortar bombs from Mahilankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Ilamaruthankulam, Devapuram and Kokkutuduwai areas.

• September 23: Troops on their search and clear operations in Puliyankulam, Iranamadu, Kilinochchi, Visuamadu, Olumadu, Ampakamam, Mullaitivu and Puthukudiyiruppu area in the North recovered 24 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), six 60-mm mortar bombs, five hand grenades, 16 81-mm mortar bombs, two 60-mm mortar para bombs, one Arul bomb, 3709 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one unidentified bomb, one Anti Personnel Mine(APM), 1800 rounds of 12.7 ammunition, one T-56 weapon and one T-56 magazine.

• September 22: Troops on their search and clear operations in Championpatthu, Chamalankulam, Devapuram, Mulliyaveli and Vellamullivaikkal areas in the North recovered four hand grenades, 19 electric detonators, 1000 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition in two boxes, seven Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one 60-mm mortar bomb, one Anti Personnel Mine (APM), one T-56 weapon and one Toshiba laptop computer on.

• September 19: Troops on their search and clear operations in Mathiyamadhu Tank, Visuamadukulam, Mullaittivu, Vellamullivaikkal and Kalkudah areas in the North recovered one Arul bomb, 1050 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition with links, 200 rounds of T-56 ammunition, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), two T-56 body parts, one magazine, one micro pistol, two hand grenades, 465 rounds of 5.5 ammunition, one T-56 magazine, one firing device, five claymore stands and 17 MPMG links.

  Meanwhile, demining groups also recovered 126 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs) from Kannadi, Piramanalankulam, Periyathampanai, Sinnapandivirichchan and Periypandivirichchan areas.

  In the meantime, troops in the East recovered two 120-mm ammunition containers and four 120-mm bombs from Kalkudah area.

  The Police also recovered one anti tank mine from Welwerikulam in Trincomalee in the East.

• September 16: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Navatkulam, Madhu, Mankulam, Mulliyavelli, Nochchimottai and Vellamullivaikkal recovered 13 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), two hand grenades, three T-56 body parts, five 120-mm charge bags, one claymore mine weighing about 2.5 kilograms, 170 of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition with links, 14 MPMG links, five claymore mines, two LTTE made bombs weighing about 25 kilograms , one T-56 weapon, one 60-mm mortar bomb and six 152-mm trappings.

  In the meantime, demining groups recovered 346 APMs, three Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs), four Jonny mines and one 60-mm mortar bomb from Nedunkandal, Mahilankulam, Kannadi, Piramanalankulam, Periyathampane, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu and Parasankulam areas.

  Meanwhile, demining groups unearthed 317 APMs , four 81-mm mortar bombs, one RPG bomb and four Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) from Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Kannadi, Piramanalankulam, Periyathampanai, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Maruthamadu and Nedunkandal areas.

  Sri Lanka's former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka said that 200 kilograms of gold belonging to the LTTE was unearthed from the Vellamullivaikkal area in the Mullaitivu District during his tenure as Army Chief. Fonseka told the Parliament during the debate to extend the emergency regulations that while larger stocks of gold had been recovered after his tenure as Commander no one knew what happened to the gold.

  The Naval intelligence personnel recovered the largest ever LTTE C-4 explosives haul hidden in the Wellamulliwaikkal area in Mullaitivu District. The high-powered lethal explosives weighed 672 kilograms and were found neatly packed in 14 kg metal boxes. Along with the explosives, Naval troops also recovered four high-speed inboard boat engines used by LTTE Sea Tiger wing cadres and a large cache of anti-aircraft ammunitions used by LTTE ground operatives.

• August 30: An investigative report by Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail revealed that an alleged LTTE human-smuggling ring is preparing to smuggle another shipload of Tamils who have left Sri Lanka to be sent to Canada. The report says the Tamils arrive in Bangkok from Sri Lanka on two-week tourist visas and stay in rented apartments pretending to be tourists until the next ship is ready to sail to Canada. The report citing the Thai Police said some of the refugees left on MV Sun Sea, the cargo ship that reached Vancouver earlier this month with 492 Tamil asylum seekers on board, were recent arrivals, who entered the country on tourist visas shortly before the ship departed in April.

• August 27: Troops on their search and clear operations in Navatkulam, Kollankulam, Poonakarai, Wellamulliwaikkal, Bogahawewa, Mulliyawelai, Puthukkudirippu, Nedunkerni and Ampalawanpokkanai areas in the North recovered five Anti Personnel Mines( APMs) one 81-mm mortar bomb, two 60-mm mortar bombs, seven hand grenades, five parts of tractor engines, nine barrels of alcohol sprit, 202 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 12 photo albums, one Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) uniform, one claymore mine, one micro pistol, five pistol magazines, one cyanide capsule, one T-56 magazine, one pistol holder, 47 rounds of .22 ammunition and one digital voice recorder. In the meantime, de-mining groups unearthed 292 APMs, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs) and six hand grenades from Mahilankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Parasankulam and Nedunkandal.

• August 25: Troops on their search and clear operations in Gurunagar, Alamkulam, Madhu, Vavunikulam, Kollankulam, Murasumoddai and Visuamadu areas in the North recovered three 81-mm mortar bombs, 83 60-mm mortar bombs, four 60-mm mortar trappings, one 40 mm-mortar bomb, two rounds of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) noses, four hand grenades, nine Anti-Personnel Mines (APMs), three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one Arul bomb and one unidentified ammunition round, troops also recovered two mobile phones, one SIM card, one memory chip and one battery charger kept hidden from the Dharmapuram Rehabilitation Centre. In the meantime, de-mining groups unearthed 118 APMs and five Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) from Mahilankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Palampiddi and Nedunkandal areas.

• August 24: Troops on their search and clear operations in Vavunikulam, Visuamadu, Vellamullivaikkal and Ampalawanpokkeni areas in the North recovered one Anti Personnel Mine (APM), one claymore mine, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 1000 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 42 60-mm mortar bombs, three hand grenades, 23 81-mm Smoke bombs and one 9.9 hp Yamaha Outboard Motor (OBM). Meanwhile, demining groups recovered 175 APMs and two Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) from Parasankulam and Nedunkandal areas. Further, troops recovered two mobile phones, two subscriber identity module cards and two phone batteries from a rehabilitation centre in Maruthamadu area.

In the meantime, troops also recovered two mobile phones from Nellukkulam Rehabilitation Centre. • August 19: Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told the Lessons Learnt Commission that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) had used the Jaffna University Medical Faculty to train some its cadres to treat the war wounded. He said that he had got the opportunity to meet three 'LTTE doctors' now undergoing rehabilitation at Senapura rehabilitation centre. According to him, as Sinhala and Muslim medical students had not been willing to join the Jaffna medical faculty due to terrorism, the LTTE had made use of some of those slots to have its cadres trained.

Meanwhile, demining groups unearthed 333 Unexplored Ordnances (UXOs) from Mahilankulam, Muruthankulam APMs, four anti tank mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, six anti personnel mine fuses and 17, Piramanalankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan, Parasankulam, Nedunkandal and Adampan areas. Further, the Mallavi Police recovered one claymore mine, one electric detonator and 1-m of detonator cord from Aninchiyankulam area.

  The Canadian Government said that authorities would screen each individual Sri Lankan Tamil migrant who embarked on Canadian shores on August 13 from the Thai cargo ship MV Sun Sea. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that the Federal Government will not hesitate to strengthen Canada's human smuggling laws. According to the Canada Border Services all 380 men and 63 women are detained while the 49 children on board MV Sun Sea are either with their families or in the care of local social services. Public Safety Minister Victor Toews said that each migrant had paid 40,000 to 50,000 Canadian dollars to the ship operators to bring them to Canada from Thailand. He has described the voyage as a human smuggling operation run by the overseas cadres of LTTE. Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has commended Canada for its reception given to the 492 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees arrived in British Columbia's Vancouver Island aboard the Thai cargo ship MV Sun Sea.

• August 16: Troops on their search and clear operations in Kollankulam, Mulliyavalai and Nanthikadal Mankulamareas in the North recovered 10 anti personnel mines (APMs), two Global Positioning Systems (GPS), two compasses, one T-56 weapon and two M-16 weapons. Meanwhile, de-mining groups unearthed 285 APMs, one Arul bomb and four APM fuses from Mahilankulam, Muruthankulam, Piramanalankulam, Periyathampanai, Kannadi, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan, Parasankulam, Periyapandivirichchan Muruthamadhu, Nedunkandal, Adampan and Mulliyavalai in the North.

• August 15: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operation in Omanthai, Pammakamam, Kollankulam, Visuamadu and Mulliyaweli recovered eight anti personnel mines, six hand grenades, one 130-mm artillery shell, one 122-mm artillery shell, seven 60- mm mortar bombs, seven Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), four RPG parts, three RPG chargers, 900 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 120-mm mortar bomb and one 81-mm mortar bomb on August 14. Meanwhile, demining groups recovered 240 anti personnel mines, two 81-mm mortar bombs, one hand grenade, one 60-mm mortar bomb, 70 Jonny mines, four unexploded ordnance and six anti personnel mine fuses from Mahilankulam, Maruthankulam, Piramanalankulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Periyapandivirichchan, Irraniluppaikulam, Parasankulam, Nedunkandal and Akkarayankulam. In the meantime, Eravur Police in Batticaloa recovered one hand grenade. Further, Lewella Police recovered one grenade used for grenade launchers.

• August 13: Hundreds of Tamils seeking asylum from Sri Lanka sailed into Canada under escort of authorities, who vowed to screen out Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres. After several months on sea, the MV Sun Sea cargo ship arrived on western Canada's Vancouver Island surrounded by a naval frigate and Police helicopters. The ship's progress has been monitored for weeks, triggering a furore in Canada over whether the boat migrants were jumping the queue while thousands of other applicants await their turn. Public Security Minister Vic Toews repeatedly vowed that Canada, known for some of the world's most welcoming asylum policies, would not be a "soft target" for human smugglers. Mr. Toews told reporters T that some people aboard the ship were "suspected human smugglers and terrorists" and Canada would prosecute anyone involved in human trafficking, which he called a "despicable crime". The ship had originally intended to go to Australia before being deterred and heading to Canada. Canadian Tamils have urged their adopted country to accept the asylum seekers, saying that the minority group faces continued difficulties in Sri Lanka. However, the Sri Lankan Government has called for the ship to be turned away, calling it a smuggling operation by the LTTE.

• August 12: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Sinnaadappan, Omanthai, Mallawarayankaddaiadappan, Kollankulam, Visuamadu, Nallur, Olumadu, Akkarayankulam, Mullaittivu, Vellamullivaikkal and Kirisuddan Wewa recovered 51 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), four 40-mm grenades, 22 81-mm mortar bombs, 23 anti personnel mines, one 122-mm artillery shell, 42 60-mm mortar bombs, seven 60-mm mortar chargers, 156 hand grenades, two T-56 body parts, 572 rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition, 200 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 11 RPG fuses, 27 RPG chargers, one Arul bomb, 18 claymore mines , 15 30-mm grenades and one 12 v battery on August 12. Meanwhile, demining groups recovered 302 anti personnel mines, one 152-mm Artillery shells, five anti personnel mine fuses, 33 Jonny mines and one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Mahilankulam, Maruthankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Irranilluppaikulam, Palampiddi, Parsankulam, Piramanalankulam, Keerisuddan and Nedunkandal.

  Sri Lankan Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris said that China has pledged its support to Sri Lanka against any international pressure for a United Nations-led probe into alleged war crimes. Peiris, who held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, said China had conveyed its support to Sri Lanka's position that international interference in investigating alleged war crimes was unwarranted.Sri Lanka has opposed U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's decision to set up a three-member expert panel to look into the conclusion of the war against the LTTE, arguing that the "Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission" appointed by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the right body to carry forward investigations. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister also hit out at the West, particularly the European Union, for imposing trade penalties on Sri Lanka for human rights violations. From August 15, the EU will withdraw its generalised system of preferences (GSP) trade concessions for Sri Lanka, which provide reduced import tariffs and preferential access to EU markets. The move is expected to badly hit Sri Lanka's apparel industry.

  Sri Lankan Government has issued a response to a report submitted by the United States Department of State to the Congress. The Sri Lankan Government said that it has received the text of the report by Stephen Rapp, Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues of the US State Department to the Congress titled "Report to Congress on measures taken by the Government of Sri Lanka and International Bodies to investigate incidents during the recent conflict in Sri Lanka, and evaluating the effectiveness of such efforts". The report submitted as a supplement to an earlier report to the Congress on October 2009 expresses doubts on the impartiality and independence of the "Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission" appointed by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to investigate the alleged violations of humanitarian law during the war with the LTTE. In response to the US report the Government issued a statement saying that it wishes to observe that in May 2009, Sri Lanka defeated the LTTE, recognized globally as a brutal terrorist organization. "The conflict situation had a devastating effect on the people of Sri Lanka and the Government has set a vigorous goal of rebuilding the nation to move forward into a new era of peace and prosperity," the report said.

• August 11: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Kokkuvil, Sangaththanei, Vauniya Railway Station, Omanthai, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Kollankulam, Mankulam, Visuamadu, Olumadu and Kokavil areas of North recovered three claymore mines, one claymore stand, 37 hand grenades, 130 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one kilogram of C-4 explosives Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 304 anti personnel mines, two 60-mm mortar bombs, one Arul bomb, one claymore mine, eight hand grenades, one 81-mm mortar bomb, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and two unexploded ordnance (UXOs) from Mahilankulam, Maruthankulam, Piramanalankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan,Irranilluppaikulam,Nedunkandal and Parasankulam. Troops also recovered seven mobile phones, nine SIM cards, seventeen mobile phone batteries and five mobile phone chargers from a rehabilitation centre in Nelukkulam, Maruthamadu .Further, a civilian has found one 60-mm mortar bomb from Paranthan.

  A Government-appointed panel tasked with investigating the final years of Sri Lanka's civil war opened in Colombo. The eight-member panel will hear testimony on five separate days in the capital and two days in Vavuniya, near the former war zone. The probe is expected to focus on why a 2002 truce between the Government and Liberation of Tigers Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels collapsed and led to more fighting. The President's office said the panel has also been asked to recommend measures to ensure that Sri Lanka does not return to conflict. Sri Lanka has rejected a separate United Nations (UN) probe into alleged rights abuses during the final stages of the war, which ended with Government troops defeating the LTTE in May 2009. Though the UN has said that at least 7,000 ethnic Tamil civilians were killed in the last four months of fighting Sri Lanka insisted that no civilians were killed while its forces were vanquishing the rebels, and that it will not allow the UN or any other independent body to probe war crimes allegations.

  Canadian authorities said that they would intercept a ship of Tamil asylum-seekers from Sri Lanka before it reached the coast because the passengers may include members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The ship was reported to be within 322 km of Canada's Pacific coast province of British Columbia, said Chris McCluskey, a spokesman for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews. The Thai cargo ship MV Sun Sea was expected to reach the Strait of Juan de Fuca off Vancouver island late August 11 or early August 12. Between 400 and 500 people are believed to be on board.

• August 10: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Nelukkulam, Kollankulam, Nedunkandal, Olumadu, Kumulamunai and Mulliawelai recovered 24 anti personnel mines, five unexploded ordnance, one hand grenade, five Rocket Propeller Grenades and three mobile phones, one battery and one charger on August 10. In the meantime, demining groups recovered 256 anti personnel mines, one 81-mm mortar bomb and six anti personnel mine fuses from Mahilankulam, Piramanalankulam, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Periyapandivirichchan, Irranilluppaikulam and Parasankulam. Also, the Police recovered 300 rounds of 23-mm paddle gun ammunition in Wellamulliwaikkal.

  Bernard Goonetilleke, the former head of Sri Lanka's now defunct Peace Secretariat said that pro- LTTE elements were involved in collecting funds from the Tamil Diaspora even after the war, according to Colombo Page. Goonetilleke made this comment while giving evidence before the "Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission" when it commenced sittings for the first time. According to Goonetilleke, pro-LTTE elements were collecting funds claiming that LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran was still alive. These elements are said to be collecting funds using documents with Prabhakaran''s signature. Referring to the Tamil diaspora, Goonetilleke said that the diaspora desired the continuation of the war and helped towards this end since they feared they would lose the privileges being enjoyed in the Western countries. He suggested the Government to engage with the diaspora and convince them about the changed situation in Sri Lanka but warned that there are still a minority of hardcore elements that still support the separation. Commenting on the issues of resettlement and the devolution Goonetilleke said the people should be allowed to resettle in their original habitat and the presence of armed forces should be limited without instilling fears in the minds of the people.

• August 9: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in Yal Point, Navatkulam, Kollankulam, Visuamadu, Mankulam and Kumulamunai recovered four hand grenades, 15 anti personnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), two 60-mm mortar bombs, one 60-mm para bomb and one 130- mm Artillery shell on August 9. Meanwhile, demining groups recovered 271 anti personnel mines, two 60-mm mortar bombs and six hand grenades from Muruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Parsankulam, Piramanalankulam, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Periyapandivirichchan, Maruthamdu and Iranailuppaikulam. Troops also recovered 12 mobile phones, six Subscriber Identity Module cards, 19 mobile phone batteries and 13 mobile phone chargers from a rehabilitation centre in Maruthamdu.

  Canada expressed concern that a Thai ship MV Sun Sea heading to British Columbia with migrants on board may be carrying cadres of LTTE. Canada's Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said that Ottawa is concerned over the possibility that there may be Tamil Tigers on board the Thai cargo ship and the authorities are closely monitoring the situation but did not elaborate on the steps the Government would take.

• August 8: Troops on their search and clear operations in Gurunagar, Kollarpuliyankulam, Kilinochchi, Iranamadu, Sinnavillu and Mulliyaweli recovered eighty 60-mm mortar bombs, six 60-mm mortar cartridges, fifteen 60-mm mortar fuses, fourteen Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one RPG launcher, one RPG body part, twenty-eight 81-mm mortar bombs, two claymore mines, two T-56 weapon body parts, one 120-mm mortar bomb and two T-56 weapons on August, according to Sri Lanka Army.

  De-mining groups recovered two hundred and fifty-four anti personnel mines, one Arul bomb and one hand grenade from Mahilankulam, Parsankulam, Piramanalankulam and Iranailuppaikulam areas.

• August 6: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops during search and clear operations in Gurunagar, Iyladdi, Omanthai, Kollankulam, Iranamadu, Barathipuram, Visuamadu, Karadiyankulam, Oddusudan and Ettakokkavilkulam areas of North recovered two 81-mm mortar bombs, eight hand grenades, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), four parts of trappings, seven anti personnel mines, one electric mine, five Arul bombs, two unidentified bombs, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG), two T-56 weapons, one pouch and one jacket.

  De-mining groups recovered 149 anti personnel mines, 12 anti personnel mine fuses, one 40-mm grenade launcher, one Arul bomb and one hand grenade from Mahilankulam, Maruthankulam, Parsankulam, Iranailuppaikulam, Piramanalankulam and Mallawarayankaddaiadampan areas.

• August 5: Sri Lanka Army reports that troops on their search and clear operations in the Omanthai, Kollankulam, Kakkarayankulam, Iranamadu, Kilinochchi, Poonakari and Wellamullivaikkal areas of North recovered 14 anti-personnel mines, four 152 mm artillery shells, 369 60-mm mortar bombs, nine 81 mm mortar bombs, eight hand grenades, two 120-mm mortar bombs, 209 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), five 40-mm grenades, one armour tank bomb, 75 electric detonators, 307 RPG chargers, eight 60 mm Para bombs, forty-four empty boxes of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) magazines, 90 60-mm mortar fuses, 399 60-mm mortar cartridges, 1568 81-mm mortar chargers, 16 81-mm mortar cartridges, 32240 rounds of MPMG ammunition, 5990 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 64520 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 475 rounds of MPMG ammunition with 13 MPMG links and 14 tripods.

• August 4: U.S. Homeland Security is monitoring the Sri Lankan Tamil migrant ship heading to Canada. According to reports of Sri Lankan media there are many cadres of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) aboard the Thai ship MV Sun Sea. Meanwhile Canadian authorities said on August 1 that they are preparing to handle any situation that may be arising from the arrival of the migrant ship carrying Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in Vancouver Island some time in the second week of August.

• August 3: Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne stated that the Government is in the process of confiscating the assets including houses, plots of land and business establishments that were run by the LTTE in Colombo and the suburbs. The Prime Minister moving the Motion to extend the Emergency Regulations by another one month, in Parliament further stated that information about the assets of the LTTE in Colombo and the suburbs are being divulged by LTTE cadres who have been arrested. The Prime Minister also stated it is obvious that the pro-LTTE International Organizations are attempting to reinvigorate the LTTE.

• July 30: July 30 Sri Lanka Rehabilitation Commissioner Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe says that 3,000 surrendered cadres of the LTTE have been released so far. The Rehabilitation Commissioner said that 11,698 LTTE cadres were identified for rehabilitation. Among the 3,000 released ex-LTTE cadres there were university students, children, ill and disabled cadres, pregnant women, mothers with children, minor offenders and those who were acquitted by courts, Brigadier Ranasinghe said.

• July 29: KP answered questions on a wide range of issues, including his capture, breakdown of the various attempts to negotiate peace and a desperate bid to thwart annihilation of the LTTE's military leadership in May 2009. He was confident that a group of like-minded Tamils based in various parts of the world would support the initiative for the benefit of Sri Lankan Tamils, and said President Mahinda Rajapakse was genuine in his efforts at resolving differences among communities and helping to re-build the war devastated regions. "Within a year of the conclusion of the war, the majority of the people displaced by the conflict are back in their villages and ex-combatants of the LTTE are undergoing rehabilitation and the international community, too, is supportive of Sri Lanka's efforts. None of these would have been possible without the political leadership given by President Rajapakse," he told the paper.

• July 28: Colombo High court sentenced two persons to 11 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for supplying information to the LTTE to assassinate the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (Mahajana Wing) leader Mangala Samaraweera. The two suspects, G.G. Ranaweera alias Malli and Sampath Thushara were accused of providing information in 2006 on the movements of former minister to assassinate him either in Colombo or in his electorate, Matara.

  The Island reported that the Police and Security Forces had so far identified 737 hardcore terrorists among the 11,686 LTTE cadre who surrendered and they were being held separately from others undergoing rehabilitation at different Government-run centres. The English Daily quoted Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Sudantha Ranasinghe as saying those involved in major terrorist attacks would have to be legally dealt with.

  Rehabilitation and Law Reforms Minister Dew Gunasekera told The Island that there were two categories of LTTE cadre in Government custody. He said: "There are about 600 to 700 men and women arrested over a period of time by successive governments. Among them are persons held in connection with high profile assassination bids targeting VIPs. The second category comprises those, who were taken in during the final phase of Eelam War IV." Gunasekera said that they would make every effort to expedite cases of those held on terrorism charges. Acknowledging the difficult task ahead, he said Tamil political parties continued to take up the issue regularly in Parliament.

• July 24: Troops on their search and clear operations in the northern areas of Navatkulam, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Iranamadu, Adampan, Mankulam, Nallur and Udayarkattukulam recovered 15 anti personnel mines (APMs), one claymore mine, two 60-mm mortar bombs, three 81-mm mortar bombs, 23 hand grenades, four 40-mm grenade launcher bombs, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 18 T-56 magazines and 545 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

  De-mining groups recovered 246 APMs from Navatkulam, Mahilankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyathampanei, Piramanalankulam, Maruthamadu, Palampiddi and Iluppaikulam.

  Police in the East engaged in search recovered one detonator, one BRB 115 bomb and one hand grenade from Kandakadu and Medirigiriya.

• July 23: Troops on their search and clear operations in the northern areas of Mirusuvil, Kodikamam, Tanankilappu, Omanthai, Madhu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam and Paranthan recovered 76 anti personnel mines (APMs), 77 hand grenades, two 81-mm mortar bombs, thirteen Argus grenades, one 60-mm mortar bomb, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb and one electric mine.

  De-mining groups recovered 347 APMs, 27 60-mm mortar bombs, four parts of RPG bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb trapping from Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Periyathampanei,Piramanalankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Irranailuppaikulam, Palampiddi and Narikkulam.

  Sri Lanka defence authorities said that the state intelligence agencies have unearthed many important information on several hardcore LTTE terrorists who are involved in international activities of the defeated LTTE. The Ministry of Defense says these suspects have been identified as cadres involved in many illegal activities including arms smuggling, financial fraud, and humans trafficking. These rebels have been active in eastern Asian, European as well in African countries.

  The intelligence agencies of the Army have also recovered several diaries and secret documents that belong to the head of the international activities of the LTTE "Castro" (Velupillai Prabhakaran). Vital information regarding investments and marine activities of the LTTE has also been uncovered from these documents. The intelligence agencies are jointly carrying out investigations with the Interpol to apprehend these LTTE terrorists.

  The Government Spokesman and the Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella said Sri Lankan government has not changed its stance on the Panel of Experts appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General and stressed that it will not be changed.

• July 21: Troops during their search and clear operations in the northern areas of Ariyalai, Varani, Messalai, Point Omanthai, Navatkulam, Madhu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Iranamadu and Visuamadu recovered 68 anti personnel mines (APMs), seven 60-mm mortar bombs, four 81-mm mortar bombs, four hand grenades, 2013 of T-56 ammunition, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and one 120-mm artillery shell.

  De-mining groups recovered 52 60-mm mortar bombs, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one hand grenade, 58 rounds of 5.0-mm ammunition, 444 rounds of T-56 ammunition and 377 APMs from Kollarpuliyankulam, Marathankulam, Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Periyathampanei, Sinnapandivirichchan, Iranaillupaikulam, Palampiddi, Adampan, Narikkulam and Kilinochchi.

  De-mining groups recovered 72 60-mm mortar bombs, three 60-mm mortar bomb fuses, five hand grenades, 180 rounds of 12.1 x 99-mm ammunition, two RPG bombs, three 40-mm grenade launchers, one 81-mm mortar bomb, 363 APMs, one Arul bomb and three Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Kollarpuliyankulam, Marathankulam, Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Periyathampanei, Sinnapandivirichchan, Iranaillupaikulam, Palampiddi, Iluppaikulam, Maruthamadu, Narikkulam and Kilinochchi.

  De-mining groups recovered 281 APMs, 75 60-mm mortar bombs, seven 60-mm mortar fuses, two hand grenades, 142 rounds of 12.1 x 99-mm ammunition, 20 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 81-mm mortar bomb, one Arul bomb and two UXO from Kollarpuliyankulam, Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Periyathampanei, Sinnapandivirichchan, Mankulam, Irranaillupaikulam, Palampiddi, Narikkulam, Kilinochchi and Iranamadu.

• July 18: The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced that it has revoked the charitable registration of Ottawa-area charity, Tamil (Sri Lanka) Refugee-Aid Society (TRAS) effective from July 17, reports Colombo Page. The agency has issued a notice in June of its intention to revoke the charitable registration of the Society saying that on the basis of an audit conducted, it has concluded that the Society has ceased to comply with the requirements of the Income Tax Act for its continued registration. The CRA stated that in that the charity failed to maintain adequate control and direction over the use of its funds improperly issued tax receipts on behalf of third parties and provided funding to non-qualified donees outside Canada. According to the findings, the Tamil charity has provided funds including $713,000 to an organization, which the CRA believes was operating as part of the support network for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a listed entity under the United Nations Suppression of Terrorism Regulations and the Criminal Code of Canada. The CRA said its audit also indicated that fundraising conducted under the Society's auspices involved an individual who has been convicted in the United States of conspiring to provide material support to the LTTE. In addition, the Society's liaison officer for Sri Lanka was named in documents filed with the Federal Court of Canada as a contact for area sales coordinators with the World Tamil Movement, also a listed entity under the Criminal Code of Canada because of its ties to the LTTE.

  Troops during their search and clear operations in Madu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Paranthan and Iranamadu areas of Wanni recovered 54 anti-personnel mines (APMs), seven hand grenades, two fuses, one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb (GLB), one 40mm grenade launcher, four T-56 weapon body parts, one unidentified weapon body part, one T-56 weapon, two 40-mm GLB body parts, eight unidentified sights, 78 T-56 magazines, eight M16 weapon magazines, 105 mussel brakers and 71 pistol magazines.

  De-Mining groups recovered 494 APMs, 96 60-mm mortar bombs, five 60-mm mortar bomb fuses, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 100 of T-56 ammunition, one 40-mm GLB, two 60-mm mortar Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one 81-mm mortar IED and two RPG IEDs from Kollarpuliyankulam, Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Sinnapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Irranaillupaikulam, Tachchanamaruthamadu, Ilamaruthankulam, Narikkulam, Parasankulam and Kilinochchi.

  Police on a tip off recoverd one hand grenade from Saliyapura area in Anuradhapura District of North Central province on July 18, according to Sri Lanka Army report.

• July 16: Canadian Immigration Officials are monitoring a ship that may be headed to British Columbia in Canada. The ship is carrying 200 Tamil migrants. Some of them are suspected to be Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres, The ship was last spotted in May 2010 in the Gulf of Thailand.

• July 14: Troops conducting search and clear operations in the northern areas of Navatkulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Karunkandal, Nedunkandal, Iranamadu, Elephantpass and Vellamullivaikkal recovered forty nine anti personnel mines (APMs), two 82-mm mortar bombs, one claymore mine, one booby trap, one hand grenade, one T-56 magazine and one multi purpose machine gun (MPMG) link.

  Meanwhile, de-mining groups unearthed 18 mortar bombs of 60-mm, one 40-mm grenade launcher bomb and 259 APMs from Kollarpuliyankulam, Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Mailankulam, Parasankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddiadampan, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Irranaillupaikulam and Kilinochchi.

  SFs found a hand grenade at Kiran in Batticaloa District.

  Troops of the area headquarters Mannar unearthed 06 APMs at Karunkandal. Troops of the Security Forces (SFs) headquarters, Kilinochchi unearthed 50 grams of explosives and one detonator and 23 at Olumadu.

  As many as half of Sri Lankans seeking asylum in Australia are suspected of being former fighters, operatives or supporters of LTTE. Sri Lankan officials also estimate that between 25 and 50 per cent of Tamils fleeing to Australia have connections to the LTTE.

  Sri Lankan defence analyst De Silva Ranasinghe says former LTTE cadres are attracted to Australia because the LTTE remains legal here, unlike in the US, Canada, Britain and 27 EU member countries, where it is proscribed as a terrorist organisation. He further said that LTTE supporters in Australia act as fundraisers for the group. In March 2010, three Tamil Australians in Melbourne pleaded guilty to sending more than AUD 1 million and AUD 97,000 worth of electronic components capable of being made into bomb detonators to the LTTE.

  FBI said the LTTE uses its supporters in countries such as the US to raise funds and buy weapons and explosives.

• July 12: Troops continuing search and clear operation in the Northern areas of Navatkulam, Maruthamadu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Visuamadu, Poonakary and Vadduvakal and recovered 50 anti personnel mines (APMs), two 81-mm mortar bombs, one unexploded ordnance (UXO), one hand grenade, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one unidentified trapping, one unidentified bomb and one T-56 weapon.

  De-mining groups recovered 173 APMs, six 60 mm mortar bombs, one RPG and one 81 mm mortar bomb from Mankulam, Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Mailankulam, Parasankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Iranamadu and Olumadu.

• July 11: Troops on search and clear operations in the Periyanthampanei, Iranamadu and Oddusudan areas of North recovered two 60 mm mortar bombs, 33 anti personnel mines (APMs), one hand grenade and one 82 mm mortar bomb on.

  Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 53 APMs and one booby trap from Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Irranaillupaikulam and Kilinochchi areas.

  Police recovered one T-56 weapon and one empty magazine from Wellampitiya area of Colombo District.

  A Sri Lankan national, Chandrayoga, was detained at the Airport of Chennai. He allegedly has links with the LTTE. His entry into India was banned and a lookout circular was pending against him. Chandrayoga arrived at Chennai from Colombo.

• July 10: Sri Lanka Army’s Military spokesman Brigadier U.A.P.Medawela told media that the Army had defused 290,000 unexploded ordnance that were left behind by the LTTE. This cache of unexploded ordnance has been found in 1,744 square kilometres of land in Northern and Eastern Provinces and around 113 square kilometres of land area have been cleared of land mines.

  At least eight NGOs are assisting the Sri Lanka Army in demining operations. Sri Lanka Army has deployed 1,050 Army personnel to expedite the demining process while over 2,000 de-miners from NGOs are also involved in the process. The source further maintains that according to the Economic Development Ministry, the Government had spent SLR 2.18 billion last year to clear landmines in the war-torn North and East.

• July 8: Troops conducting search and clear operations in the general areas of Chava, Maruthamadu, Karunkandal, Kathiraweli, Iranamadu and Vishuamadu recovered eight hand grenades, 59 anti personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one booby trap, six Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 122-mm Artillery shell, one 81 mm mortar trapping, one 80 mm mortar bomb, one thousand five hundred rounds of T-56 ammunition, two parts of RPGs, two 81 mm mortar bombs, five hand sets, two VIP antennas, two ROD antennas and two carrying harnesses.

  De-mining groups unearthed two hundred and thirty-six anti personnel mines and two Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Maruthankulam, Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Malwarayankaddiadampan, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Kakkayankulam, Irranaillupaikulam, Udaiyadi, Maruthamadu and Kilinochchi areas.

• July 6: Troops continued their search and clear operations in the Maruthamadu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Iranamadu, Wellamulliwaikkal and Mulliwadduvan areas of North and recovered 44 anti-personnel mines (APMs), one 81 mm mortar bomb, one 40 mm Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), seven bombs, one hand grenade, one micro pistol and one T-56 weapon.

  De-mining groups recovered 488 APMs, 260 fuses, one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), 6254 rounds of 7.62 x 54 ammunition, 9974 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ammunition, two rounds of 12.7 ammunition, one 60 mm mortar bomb and one detonator from Maruthankulam, Parasankulam, Malwarayankaddiadampan, Periyathampanai, Mankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Kakkayankulam, Irranaillupaikulam, Maruthamadu, Udaiyadi and Kilinochchi areas.

  Police in the Kotahena area of Colombo District and Sambalthivu area of Trincomalee District recovered two hand grenades, one claymore mine, two birth certificates, one education certificate, a principal’s seal, two identity cards, one driving licence and one mobile phone.

  June 30: Troops during their search and clear operations in Point Pedro, Nagarkovil, Navatkulam, Maruthamadu, Karunkandal, Kollankulam, Visuamadu and Kokavil areas of Wanni recovered one 40-mm grenade, 25 81-mm mortar bombs, 28 anti personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, four Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs), 11 pressure mines, nine unidentified bombs, two hand grenades, 25 claymore mines and one Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

  De-mining groups recovered 192 anti-personnel mines, five hand grenades, six Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG)s, two 60-mm mortar bombs and one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Mahilankulam, Parasankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu and Udaiyadi.

  The Police in Kandy engaged in a search recovered one hand grenade from Madawala area.

• June 29: Troops during search and clear operations in the areas of Manik Farm, Navatkulam, Kollankulam, Kilinochchi, Iranamadu, Wellamullivaikkal, Kachchilamadu and Damgeliyadde recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, 18 anti-personnel mines, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 49 hand grenades, four T-81 drums, one pistol and one three wheeler.

  De-mining groups recovered 57 anti-personnel mines and two unexploded devices from Mahilankulam, Udaiyadi and Maruthamadhu areas.

• June 27: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Rajanganaya and Katkulam areas of Wanni recovered four hand grenades.

  De-mining groups also recovered 44 anti personnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one hand grenade and two Arul bombs during de-mining operations in Periyapandivirichchan area.

  Civilians have found one 81-mm mortar bomb and one RPG from Kilinochchi area.

• June 24: Troops during their search and clear operations in the general areas of Palali, Murusuwil, Kevil, Navatkulam, Maruthamadu, Kollankulam, Olumadu, Poonakary, Kiranchi, Angodavillu, Puthukkudiyirippu and Chalai recovered one 40-mm grenade launcher, 250 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 11 hand grenades, 10 kilograms of C-4 explosives, 79 anti-personnel mines, one 60 mm mortar bomb, one 81 mm mortar bomb, two Unexploded Ordnances (UXO), one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one I-com radio communication set and some LTTE documents.

  De-mining groups recovered 203 anti personnel mines and two RPG bombs from Mahilankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyathampanai, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Vilakthikulam and Udaiyadi areas.

• June 23: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Charaddikulam, Kollankulam and Nallur areas of Wanni recovered one hand grenade, five anti personnel mines, two Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and eight Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG).

  De-mining groups recovered 427 anti-personnel mines, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and one hand grenade during de-mining operations in Mahilankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyathampanei, Maruthamadhu, Vilakthikulam and Udaiyadi areas.

• June 22: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Periyakulam, Chiraddikulam, Mankulam and Adikarammulla areas of Wanni recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), 13 anti-personnel mines, one electric mine, one LTTE I-com radio communication set, one modified battery with case and one Global Positioning System (GPS) data code.

  De-mining groups also recovered 295 anti personnel mines, one 122 mm artillery shell, two Arul bombs, one 81 mm mortar bomb, one hand grenade and one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) during de-mining operations in Mahilankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyathampanei, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Kovilpulliyankulam, Udaiyadi and Kilinochchi areas.

  June 21: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Sinnapandivirichchan, Maruthamadu, Nagathalu, Oddusudan, Padaviya, Adikarammulla and Visuamadu areas of Wanni recovered 23 anti-personnel mines, 36 60-mm mortar bombs, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), one Global Positioning System (GPS) and a few other items.

  De-mining groups recovered 225 anti-personnel mines, one RPG and two Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) during de-mining operations in Mahilankulam, Navatkulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Kovilpuliyankulam, Maruthamadu, Narikkulam, Udaiyadi and Adampan areas on the same day.

  A large number of weapons including a 20 kilograms of claymore mine, 93 anti-personnel mines and 9000 ammunition rounds used in T-56 assault rifles were recovered by the Special Task Force (STF) on June 19 during the search operation in Kilinochchci area, adds Daily Mirror. A number of weapons, used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was also recovered during the search operation conducted in Kilinochchi by the STF.

• June 20: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Paranthan, Olumadhu, Mankulam, Iranamadu, Mulliyavelai and Tanniyattu areas of Wanni recovered one Icom radio set, seven Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), three RPG chargers, two hand grenades, one Arul bomb, seven anti-personnel mines and four 81 mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also recovered four anti personnel mines during de-mining operations in Kilinochchi area.

  Troops operating in the north, conducted a combined operation with Police in Mannar and Ampalawanpokkanai areas and recovered five boxes of non electrical detonators and one Out Board Motor.

  Three suspected operatives of the LTTE were arrested and a cache of detonators was seized from their possession, four days after a member of the banned outfit was arrested by the Police. The trio was arrested by the Tamil Nadu ''Q'' branch during a raid at Tiruchirapalli. 4,900 ordinary detonators and 430 electric detonators were recovered from them, an official release said in Chennai. Siva, Selvam, Tamiz stayed illegally in Chennai, Erode and Tiruchirapalli, respectively, without registering themselves as Sri Lankan Tamils, it said, adding that strict vigil along the coastal areas prevented them from smuggling the detonators to Sri Lanka. Investigations revealed that the trio did not have any plans to carry out terror acts in India, the release said.

  38-year-old Chiranjeevi, a member of the intelligence wing of LTTE who was arrested on June 16, had confessed to having smuggled explosives along with Siva, Selvam, Tamiz, during the war between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan Army, Police claimed. The arrested were, however, not involved in the recent track blast near Peranai Railway Station, where passengers of the Tiruchi-Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express had a narrow escape, the release stated.

• June 15: Troops during search and clear operations in Kirudavil Junction, Omanthai, Nochchimoddai, Sinnapandivirichchan, Kollankulan, Mankulam, Nallur and Uruthirapuram areas of Wanni recovered one charger with 15 kilograms of explosives, two hand grenades, 34 anti-personnel mines, three 81-mm mortar bombs, three T-56 magazines, one micro pistol magazine, four Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and one electric mine.

  De-mining groups also recovered 199 anti-personnel mines, 28 81-mm mortar bombs, three 60-mm mortar bombs, seven Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and one hand grenade during de-mining operations in Mailankulam, Vellarsinnakulam, Malawarayankaddaiadampan, Periyapandivirichchan, Kovilpullikulam, Narikkulam, Udaiyadi, Adampan and Kilinochchi areas.

  A civilian has found one trapped 81 mm mortar bomb in Periyapuliyankulam area.

  Sri Lanka naval troops attached to Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Walagamba seized a haul of gelignite hidden in a vehicle at a road block at the Vadalikulam junction in Eastern Naval Area of Trincomalee District, reports Colombo Page. The troops acting on information received apprehended the haul of gelignite weighing approximately 30 kilograms while the stock was being transported. The troops seized the vehicle and arrested the persons.

  Naval troops attached to SLNS Vijayaba in the Eastern Naval Command, arrested another person yesterday in Kumburuppidi area for possessing dynamite charges used for illegal fishing. The suspect in his possession had 3 dynamite charges, a pair of diving fins, a pair of goggles, and a face mask. He has been handed over to the Kuchchaweli Police for further investigations.

• June 14: Troops during search and clear operations in Sinnapandivirichchan and Visuamadu areas of Wanni recovered five anti-personnel mines, five Arul bombs, 11 hand grenades, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and two 120-mm mortar bombs.

• June 11: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Sinnapandivirichchan areas of Jaffna recovered 12 anti-personnel mines, one detonator, four kilograms of gelignite explosives one detonator cord and one 81-mm mortar bomb. Meanwhile, de-mining groups also found 26 anti-personnel mines, one claymore mine and one 60-mm mortar bomb from Murthukulam, Mahilankulam, Velarsinnakulam, Mailankulam, Malvarayankaddaiadampan and Kulankulam areas.

  The Police and troops in the east recovered 60-mm mortar launcher without its base plate, one T-56 weapon, two T-56 magazines, 60 rounds of T-56 ammunition, five hand grenades, one 40-mm grenade launcher, two 40-mm grenades, five 60-mm mortar bombs from Mudagala south areas in Ampara District during search operations.

  June 10: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Navatkulam, Palamoddai, Marthmadhu, Kollankulam, Akkarayankulam and Mankulam areas of Wanni recovered 30 anti-personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 2500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one Argus hand grenade, one 40-mm RPG bomb and two 81-mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also found 698 anti-personnel mines, 25 81-mm mortar bombs, two 60-mm mortar bombs, four 40-mm grenade launcher bombs, one hand grenade, one claymore mine, one 120 mm mortar bomb, one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), two RPG bombs and 92 rounds of T-56 ammunition during de-mining operations in the Northern province.

  June 9: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Nedunkerni, Kilinochchi and Iranapalai areas of Wanni recovered ten rounds of T-56 ammunition, 50 empty cases, seven rounds of FNC ammunition, two locally made shotguns, eight hand grenades, 18 60-mm mortar bombs, 28 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), seven 81 mm mortar bombs, 500 rounds of 7.62 x 54 ammunition, 17 packs, two body parts of a T-56 Light Machine Gun (LMG), two pouches, one body part of a Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG), three body parts of a FNC weapon, fourteen T-56 weapon butts, four upper hand guards, thirty receiving covers, 20 bolt carriers, twelve triggers, 22 hammers, 13 gas tubes and 20 pistol grips.

  De-mining groups also found one anti personnel mine during de-mining operations in Kilinochchi area.

• June 8: Troops during search and clear operations in Navatkulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Kollankulam, Parantan, Mankulam, Kokavil and Panikkankulam areas of Wanni recovered 27 anti-personnel mines, two 81 mm mortar bombs, 40 60-mm mortar bombs, two electric mines, one hand grenade, two chemical smokes and four cartridges 38-mm anti riot chargers.

  De-mining groups also found 452 anti-personnel mines, two 81 mm mortar bombs and 19 60-mm mortar bombs during de-mining operations in Mahilankulam, Kokkuveliya, Navatkulam, Maruthankulam, Malwarayankaddai, Kannadi, Vilathikulam, Marathamadu, Kovilpuliyankulam, Palampiddi, Kilinochchi and Murusumoddai area.

• June 7: Troops during search and clear operations in Arialai, Kilinochchi, Kumulamunai and Kachchilamadu recovered three 81-mm mortar bombs, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one hand grenade and five anti-personnel mines.

  De-mining groups also found three hand grenades during de-mining operations in Kilinochchi area.

• June 6: Troops during search and clear operations in Chavakachcheri and Mulliyaveli areas of Wanni recovered three hand grenades, three detonators and 200 grams of C4 explosive. Meanwhile, de-mining groups also recovered 99 anti-personnel mines, 66 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one hand grenade, one flack jacket and two T-56 magazines during de-mining operation in Velarsinnakulam, Mehilamkulam, Kannadi, Sinnapandivirichchan, Kanakrayankulam, Kovilpuliyankulam, Nochchikulam, Marthamadu, Sinnararsakulam, Narikkulam, Adampan and Kilinochchi areas.

  June 5: Tamil Nadu Police had advised the Union Government of India not to grant permission for Malaysian Tamil politician P. Ramaswamy to arrive in Tamil Nadu, sources said. The Tamil Nadu State Government is due to hold an International Tamil Literary conference in Coimbatore later this month. However, Tamil Nadu Police which had scanned the background of the Malaysian politico Ramaswamy has instructed the Union Government of India to prevent his entry into Tamil Nadu as he was a hardcore LTTE supporter and criticised even the Government of India for its stance against the LTTE, the sources said.

• June 4: Troops during search and clear operations in Nawatkulam, Marathamadu, Madukulam, Thirunagar South, Panakkandi, Thiruviaruvisuamadu, Iranapalai and Kumulamunai areas of Wanni recovered 13 anti-personnel mines, six Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), six 60 mm mortar bombs, part of a Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) bomb and four hand grenades.

  De-mining groups also recovered 366 anti-personnel mines, 15 RPGs, three Unexploded Ordnances (UXO), 19 81 mm mortar bombs, 33 60-mm mortar bombs, two hand grenades and one 152-mm Artillery Shell during de-mining operations in Mahilankulam, Sinnapandivirichchan, Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankadladampan, Illuppaikulam, Kakayankulam, Senkapaikulam Maruthamadu, Kollamkulam, Narikkulam, Vurithiyapuram, Kanneipuram, Visuamadu, Murusumoddai, Ramanathpuram and Akkarayankulam areas.

  Two pro- LTTE activists were arrested in Paris following the death of Ramesh Sivarupan who is believed to be a member of the Ruthrakumar faction of the LTTE, according to informed sources, reports Sunday Observer. The sources said that Ramesh Sivarupan was reportedly kidnapped and taken in a van from his residence in Paris and was found near his house after few days with injuries. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Paris on June 3. Thambiah Ganesh and Kuppilan Ravi, believed to be members of the Nediyavan group of the pro-LTTE faction have been taken into custody by the Police in Paris in connection with the death of Sivarupan, sources said.

  A week before, the Nediyavan faction set ablaze thousands of copies of Thainilam, a newspaper in Paris printed by its rival Ruthrakumar faction. The rivalry between the two factions had spread to several parts of Europe with the members of each faction looking for each other, the sources said. According to sources, the conflict between the two factions sparked off following the annihilation of the LTTE in Sri Lanka in 2009. The two factions are demanding that the assets held by the LTTE abroad should be shared, apart from their new ideologies, informed sources said. V. Ruthrakumar, a lawyer by profession domiciled in the United States is the ‘architect’ behind the setting up of the so-called ‘TGTE’ of his faction.

• June 3: Troops on their search and clear operations in the general areas of Kuppilan, Menik Farm, Navatkulam, Marathamadu, Adampan, Iranamadu and Kollamkulam recovered one T-56 weapon, four T-56 magazines, one hundred and sixty-four rounds of T-56 ammunition, thirteen detonators, fourteen anti personnel mines (APM), 0.6 kilo grams of C-4 explosives, one detonator cord, one claymore stand, one firing device, three magazine covers, one hand grenade, two 81 mm mortar bombs and nineteen 60 mm mortar bombs.

  In the east troops on their search and clear operations also recovered three T-56 weapons, three T-56 magazines, two hundred rounds of T-56 ammunition, four Light Machine Gun links (LMG), one micro pistol, one micro pistol magazine, one part of an AP mine and two unidentified devices from Mankerni in Batticaloa area.

  De-mining groups also recovered two hundred and ninety-eight anti personnel mines and two Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Mahilankulam, Velarsinnakulam, Kannadi, Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Vilathikulam, Kovilpuliyankulam, Palampiddi, Narikkulam and Akkarayankulam areas.

• June 2: Troops during search and clear operations in Navakkulam, Adampan, Kilinochchi, Mankulam, Akkarayankulam and Kumulamunai areas of Wanni recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), two hand grenades, seven anti-personnel mines, one Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) pack, one belt, two ground sheets, two Olive Green uniforms, two combat kits, one dog tag, 15 bottles of medicine and two unidentified bombs.

  Demining groups recovered 793 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 11 T-56 magazines, 112 60-mm mortar bombs, 90 electric detonators, 24 non electric detonators, 13 40-mm mortar gas bombs, four RPGs, 57 81-mm mortar fuses, 14 trip flares, one hand grenade, 16 claymore mines and one 30-mm ammunition round from Murusumoddai area.

• May 31: Troops during search and clear operations in Nawatkulam, Paranthan, Kiranchi, Nivil, Puthukkuddiyiruppu and Karayamullivaikkal areas of Wanni recovered six anti-personnel mines, one unidentified bomb, one 12.7-mm gun barrel, one pouch, two TNT chargers, 12 hand grenades, one pressure mine, 13 Arul bombs, two smoke bombs, one thunder bomb, 10 pedal gun rounds, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one RPG charger, one micro pistol, three pistol magazines, 35 rounds of pistol ammunition, one pistol pouch, two cyanide capsules one boot pair and one diving kit.

  Demining groups recovered 160 anti-personnel mines, one 40 mm RPG and five unexploded ordnance (UXo) from Mahilankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddiadampan, Parasankulam, Palampiddi and Narikkulam areas on the same day.

  Police recovered hand grenade in Periyaurani area of Ampara District.

• May 30: Troops during search and clear operations in the general areas of Mandan, Gowtharimunai, Wellamullivaikkal, Thissapura, Mahamayapuram and Kiran recovered six hand grenades, 26 anti-personnel mines, one electric mine, 1170 rounds of T-56 ammunition, two T-56 magazines, 600 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, two MPMG ammunition links, one Yamaha Outboard Motor (OBM), 17 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and 10 kilograms of explosives.

  Demining groups found 103 anti-personnel mines, one RPG, one hand grenade and three Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Parasankulam, Palampiddi and Narikkulam areas.

  De-mining groups recovered 142 AP mines, six rounds of T-56 mm ammunition and two Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) from Mahilankulam, Kulankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Malwarayankaddaiadampan, Kovilpuliyankulam, Irranailuppaikkulam, Palampiddi and Narikkulam areas on the same day.

  The Police on information also recovered one 9-mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition from Fort Police Area on the same day.

• May 24: Troops during search and clear operations in Paranthan, Mullaittivu, Mannar and Puthukkuddiyirippu areas of Wanni recovered four hand grenades, 16 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one claymore mine weighing about nine kilograms, one T-56 weapon, three T-56 magazines, 75 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one AC stabilizer, one 15 inches LCD monitor and one camera.

• May 23: Troops during search and clear operations in Thampakamam, Putur, Poonakary and Paranthan recovered seven 60-mm mortar bombs, two 40-mm grenades, 19 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one anti-personnel mine and two 81-mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also recovered 182 anti-personnel mines, 18 number of 81-mm mortar bombs, one hand grenade and one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from Kulankulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Kovilpuliyankulam, Alankulam and Adampan areas on the same day.

• May 22: Troops during search and clear operations in the general areas of Navatkulam, Kollankulam, Adampan, Paranthan, Annatevanvayal, Mullaittivu, Kalikkadu and Maruthampuval areas of Wanni recovered 19 anti-personnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one 20-mm mortar bomb, three 40-mm grenades, two hand grenades, two 60-mm mortar bombs, one FMC weapon and one FMC magazine.

  De-mining groups recovered 198 anti-personnel mines, one 40 mm RPG, one hand grenade, one 81-mm mortar bomb and one Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Malawarayankaddaiadampan, Kovilpuliyankulam, Palampiddi, Vilathikulam and Narikkulam areas.

  Troops in the east also recovered one anti-personnel mine from Pankulama area, of Trincomalee District.

• May 20: Troops during search and clear operations in Asikulam, Navatikulam, Chiraddikulam, Iranamadu, Murusuoddai and Ampakamam areas of Wanni recovered 22 anti-personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, 18 T-56 magazines, 29 Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links, eight claymore mines, 34 hand grenades, two T-56 weapons, 1000 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 2500 rounds of MPMG ammunition, two maps, one LTTE made military pack, four plastic water bottles and one oil bottle.

  De-mining groups also recovered 167 anti-personnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), two hand grenades, one 60-mm mortar bomb, 57 rounds of T-56 ammunition, three Unexploded Ordinances (UXOs) from Mahilankulam, Periyathampanai, Malwarayankaddaladampan, Kovilpuliyankulan, Tachchanamaruthmadu, Narikkulam and Adampan areas.

• May 19: Troops during search and clear operations in Puthukkudiyirippu, Iranamadu, Alankulam, Nallur, Kilinochchi and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni recovered 50 kilograms of C-4 explosives, one .22 rifle, one 12 bore rifle, 16 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), 130 electric detonators, 5000 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 13 anti personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb and two hand grenades.

  Army troops and the Police operating in Puthukkudiyirippu and Wellamullivaikkal areas also recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, 17 RPGs, 15 60-mm mortar bombs, one claymore mine weighing about 1.5 kilograms, 58 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 500 rounds of 7.62 x 54-mm ammunition, 770 rounds of T-56 mm ammunition, one 12.7 mm ammunition link with 45 ammunition, parts of silencer gun, one CS gas and one I-com radio communication set.

  Demining groups recovered four anti-personnel mines from Adampan and Akkarayankulam areas.

• May 18: Troops during search and clear operations in Iranamadu and Kumulamunai areas of Wanni recovered nine Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) made using RPG bomb, 38 anti-personnel mines, four 60-mm mortar bombs and one hand grenade.

  De-mining groups recovered one anti personnel mine from Adampan area.

  The Police in the Ampara District recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine and 23 rounds of T-56 ammunition from Alayadiwembu area.

• May 17: Troops during search and clear operations in Kovilkulam, Nedunkandal, Kilinochchi, Ampakamam, Kumulamunai, Katkulam and Kachilamadu areas of Wanni recovered seven Unexploded Ordnances (UXO), 15 Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links, 700 rounds of MPMG ammunition, 6100 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 51 hand grenades, 16 antipersonnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and one 60-mm mortar bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 157 anti-personnel mines, one claymore mine, three hand grenades, one 81-mm trapped mortar bomb, one 60 mm mortar bomb, 43 81-mm mortar bombs and one 40-mm mortar bomb from Velarsinnakulam, Mahilamkulam, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivapandivirichchan, Malawarayankaddaiadmpan, Vavunikulam, Kovilpuliyankulam and Palampiddi areas.

  Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 110 anti-personnel mines, 16 81-mm mortar bombs, two 60-mm mortar bombs, ten 60-mm mortar bomb fuses and 14 hand grenades from Velarsinnakulam, Periyathampanai, Nochchikulam, Kovilpuliyankulam, Akkarayankulam and Visuamadu areas on the same day.

• May 14: Troops during search and clear operations in Murusumoddai, Kumulamunai, Puthukkuddiyiruppu and Kollarpuliyankulam areas of Wanni recovered six hand grenades, one T-56 empty magazine, 299 60-mm mortar bombs, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), four claymore mines, nine anti-personnel mines, ten 2.5 kilograms claymore mines, two detonators, three LTTE field dressings, one LTTE shirt, one LTTE cap, two LTTE packs, two LTTE pouches, 20 metres of claymore wire.

  Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 132 anti-personnel mines from Mahilankulam, Velarsinnakulam, Mallawarayankaddaiadampan, Periyathampanai, Marathamadu, Kovilpuliyankulam and Palampiddi area on the same day.

• May 12: Troops during search and clear operations in Mankulam, Mullaittivu and Ampalawanpokkanai areas recovered four anti-personnel mines, three claymore mines and three hand grenades, according to Sri Lanka Army report. Meanwhile, de-mining groups also recovered one anti personnel mine from Nachchimoddai area on the same day.

• May 11: Troops during search and clear operations in Arugampuleliya, Visuamadu, Ampakamam, Mankulam, Mullaittivu, Kumulamunai and Kannajipuram areas of Wanni recovered four 60-mm mortar bombs, 12 anti-personnel mines, one 81-mm mortar bomb, 200 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 1528 rounds of 7.62 x 39-mm ammunition, seven Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) chargers, four 60-mm mortar cartridges, five 60-mm mortar fuses, one T-56 weapon, one empty magazine, three hand grenades and one LTTE made cyanide capsule.

  Meanwhile, de-mining groups also recovered seven 60-mm mortar bombs, four anti-personnel mines, 11 hand grenades, three RPG heat bombs, one Arul bomb, one Improvised Explosive Devise (IED), 13 82-mm mortar bombs, one 81-mm mortar bomb, 107 rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition and five RPG weapon body parts from Kilinochchi, Akkarayankulam and Iranamadu areas on the same day.

• May 10: Troops during search and clear operations in Nochchimoddai, Ampakamam, Arian and Keirdamadu recovered three hand grenades, one electric mine, one anti-personnel mine, one 81-mm mortar bomb, 505 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm T-56 ammunition, one LTTE pouch and one LTTE uniform belt.

  Meanwhile, demining groups also recovered one hundred and one anti personnel mines, two 81-mm mortar bombs and one 40-mm Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) from Mahilankulam, Mallawarayankddiaadampan, Periyathampanai, Nochchikulam, Kovilpuliyankulam and Alankulam areas on the same day.

• May 9: Troops during search and clear operations in Kunchimurikulam, Maraikkutti, Murusumoddai, Ariyan and Puthukkudiyrippu areas of Wanni on May 9 recovered one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), two 40-mm Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 15 hand grenades, one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, 240 rounds of 9-mm ammunition, 45 rounds of 22-mm ammunition and one LTTE uniform, according to Sri Lanka Army report.

  De-mining groups also recovered 61 anti-personnel mines, one 40-mm RPG bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb, three 60-mm mortar bombs and three UXOs from Velarsinnakulam, Periyathanpanai, Ponnagar, Nochchikulam and Alankulam areas on the same day.

  The Serunuwara Police during a search operation in Trincomalee District recovered six 81-mm mortar bombs, 48 numbers of 81-mm bomb chargers, one RPG bomb, five anti personnel mines and four anti personnel mine fuses.

• May 7: Troops during search and clear operations in Periyakaddai, Ampakamam and Tanniyuttu areas of Wanni on May 7 recovered 13 gelignite bars and eight anti-personnel mines.

  De-mining groups also recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) charger, five hand grenades, six anti-personnel mine fuses, 82 anti-personnel mines, one 40-mm RPG bomb, one Arul bomb, eight 81-mm mortar bombs, three fuses, 29 rounds of 7.62x39 ammunition, 32 Unexploded Ordnances (UXO) from Semamadhu, Periyapandivirichchan, Mallawarayankaddai, Periyathantanai, Nochchikulam, Iraniiruppaikulam, Tachchalamarathamadhu, Alankulam, Adampan and Kilinochchi areas.

  Police recovered 13 claymore mines, three firing devices and eight Light Machine Gun (LMG) links with ammunition from Murusumoddai area of Kurunegala District during a search operation.

• May 6: Troops during search and clear operations in Rambakulam, Chinnkpurawasankulam and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni on May 6 recovered eleven hand grenades, one shotgun, one T-56 weapon body, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one Arul bomb, nine 60-mm mortar bombs, one claymore mine and two-60 mm misfired mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also found ten anti personnel mines from Kilinochchi, Mankulam and Kumulamunai areas.

• May 5: Troops on during search and clear operations in Mankulam, Ampakamam and Otiyamalalai areas of Wanni recovered one claymore mine, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), 18 anti-personnel mines and four 60-mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also found one 152 anti-personnel mines, one claymore mine, 24 P1 mines and one detonator from Kasawapuliyamkulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Mallawarayankaddampan, Periyathampannai, Maruthamadu, Iranaaillupukulam, Narikkulam and Alankulam areas.

• May 4: Troops during search and clear operations in the Kulavisuddan, Wilachchiya, Iranamadu, Visuamadu, Kilinochchi, Ampakamam, Kumulamunai, Katkulam, Vellamullivaikkal, Udayarkattukulam and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni recovered one 40-mm grenade launcher, one claymore mine, 22 hand grenades, 73 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), three 60-mm mortar bombs, two 81-mm mortar bombs, 17 ant-personnel mines, one electric mine and 48 Bangalore torpedoes.

  The Mathugama Police recovered one hand grenade from Kalutara area.

• May 2: Troops during search and clear operations in Kanagarayankulam and Kilinochchi areas of Wanni on May 2 recovered one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), one round of 130-mm artillery ammunition, two 60-mm mortar bombs and four 81-mm mortar bombs.

  De-mining groups also recovered 130 anti-personnel mines from Velarsinnakulam, Palampiddi, Periyapandivirichchan, Nochchikulam and Kilinochchi areas on the same day.

  Troops in the east recovered eight T-56 weapons, ten T-56 magazines, one claymore mine and 5 kilograms of C-4 explosives from Kumana area of Ampara District during a search operation.

  The Wakarai Police in Batticaloa District recovered 55 anti-personnel mines, 57 anti-personnel mine fuses, 66 electronic detonators, nine built-up can bombs, one firing device and two metres length of detonator cord from Angodavillu area.

• April 28: Troops during search and clear operations in Avarangal, Paranthan, Puthukkudiyiruppu and Iranamadu areas of Wanni recovered two hand grenades, 16 number of 60-mm mortar bombs, seven 60-mm mortar fuses, 30 number of 60-mm mortar bombs, five 40-mm mortar bombs, 4855 rounds of T-56 ammunition, eight T-56 cocking handles, five T-56 receiving covers, two Light Machine Gun (LMG) trappers, one LMG butt, one 60-mm mortar sight, four Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) blank attachments, four T-56 bolts, two MPMG muzzle flashes, four T-56 triggers, three 60 mm mortar traversing handles, one T-56 upper hand guard, two Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) body cover parts, three T-56 returning springs, two LMG gas regulators, two I-com communication sets, one I-com antenna, one battery pack, one set of iron handcuffs, one RPG and one 82-mm mortar bomb.

  De-mining groups recovered 154 anti-personnel mines from Valarasinnakulam, Madhu, Periyapandivirichchan, Nochchikulam and Narikkulam areas on the same day.

  Troops in the east recovered eight anti-personnel mines from Kandakadu area in Batticaloa District during a search operation.

• April 27: Troops during search and clear operations in Ariyalai, Nochchimotai, Ampakam, Iranamadu, Kumulamunai, Kappalthirei, Alankulam and Andankulam areas of recovered one T-56 weapon, nine Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), seven hand grenades, three 81 mm mortar bombs, one 60 mm mortar bomb, one electric mine, 16 anti-personnel mines and 133 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

  Seven suspected LTTE cadres have been arrested in The Netherlands. The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Holland Grace Asirvathan provided the information. As per the BBC, the arrests came after an intensive study of the LTTE banned activities in the country. It quoted The Netherlands National Criminal office as saying 16 residences and businesses were searched in the operation and computers, paperwork, phones, documents, photos, DVDs and 40,000 Euro were seized. "Among the suspects are the leaders of various organisations of Tamils in the Netherlands, which probably play a role in the international network of the LTTE," it quoted the Justice Ministry as saying. Leaders of the Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC), the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO), the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), the Tamil Women Organisation (TWO) and the Tamil Arts and Cultural Organization Netherlands (TKCO), are believed to be among the suspects.

  Troops recovered two anti-personnel mines and one 60-mm mortar bomb from Kandakadu area in Batticaloa District during a search operation.

• April 25: Troops during search and clear operations in Uduppiddi, Anuradhapura, Paranthan, Andankulam, Chemmalai and Puthukkuddiyiruppu recovered one 60-m mortar bomb, four hand grenades, one 81-m mortar bomb, 20 anti-personnel mines, one Sony television, one cassette recorder, two Singer sewing machines and two water pumps.

• April 22: Troops during search and clear operations in Ninthavil, Alankulam, Vaddakachchi, Adampan, Ampakamam, Naganchola, Vellamullivaikkal and Ottamavadi recovered 26 Anti-Personnel (AP) mines, three Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs), four hand grenades, 226 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 60-mm mortar bomb, 393 rounds of 14.5-mm ammunition, one box of 12.7-mm ammunition, 915 rounds of 7.62 x 54-mm ammunition, five 81-mm mortar bombs, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one RPG charger, seven 120-mm mortar bombs, one T 56 weapon and one magazine.

  De-mining groups engaged in de-mining work recovered one 120 AP mines, eight 81-mm mortar bombs and one 60-mm mortar bomb from Velarasinnakulam, Thampanai, Thampanni, Nochchikulam and Kirisuddan areas in the Northern Province on the same day.

• April 20: Troops during search and clear operations in the Passaiyoor, Mathagal, Mankulam, Anuradhapura, Adampan, Killinochchi, Akkarayankulam, Paranthan and Periyaparanthan areas of Wanni recovered seven hand grenades, four anti-personnel mines, two claymore mines, seven Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), two 81-mm mortar bombs, 665 T-56 ammunition, 50 7.62 x 54-mm ammunition rounds, 13 12.7 x 54mm ammunition, three 60-mm mortar bombs and one fuse.

  Troops engaged in de-mining work found four anti-personnel mines from Kandakadu area in the Polonnaruwa District.

• April 19: Troops during their search and clear operations in the general areas of Ninthavil, Kilinochchi and Iranamadu recovered one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), eight anti personnel mines and one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG).

  De-mining groups unearthed 47 anti personnel mines and eight UXOs from Tambanaikulam, Alankulam and Akkarayankulam areas.

• April 18: Troops during their search and clear operations in Kilinochchi, Kumulamunai and Kandakadu recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb and four anti personnel mines.

  De-mining groups recovered eight anti personnel mines from Velarsinnakulam, Periyathampane, Alankulam and Akkarayankulam.

  Troops on a tip-off recovered two hand grenades, two kilograms of cannabis and five rounds of 7.62 x 38 mm ammunition from Matihakwala under Openayake Police Division area in Ratnapura District.

• April 9: Troops during search and clear operations in the Neenthavil, Kilinochchi and Alankulam areas of Wanni recovered 40 anti-personnel mines and one hand grenade.

  De-Mining groups recovered four anti-personnel mines and three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) from Mallavarakkayan and Kilinochchi areas.

• April 7: Troops during their search and clear operations in Badypuram, Jaffna, Ninthavil, Adampan, Kilinochchi and Palcheni areas of Northern Province, recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb, three anti-personnel mines, one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), one hand grenade and 58500 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

  De-mining groups recovered 28 anti-personnel mines and one hand grenade from Marakkarampalai and Akkarayankulam areas.

• April 6: Troops during their search and clear operations recovered seven anti-personnel mines and one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) from Alankulam and Kollakurichcheh areas of Kilinochchi District.

• April 5: Troops during their search and clear operations in Karunkandal, Mulliyaweli, Muttuvinayagapuram in Kilinochchi District recovered one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), 445 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition and two anti-personnel mines.

  De-mining groups also recovered one anti-personnel mine, three 40 mm Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) and two hand grenades from Periyapandivirichchan area in Wanni.

• April 4: Troops conducted search and clear operations in Porathivu areas of Wanni and recovered one micro pistol, two T-56 weapons and 60 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

  A stock of welding sticks stacked in five boxes, six welding plants, ten drill drive boxes and 200 screw drivers and one anti-personnel mine were also among the recoveries made by troops from Andankulam and Iranapalai areas on the same day.

  Demining groups also recovered 39 anti-personnel mines, three claymore mines and four 60-mm mortar bombs from Periyapandivirichchan and Palampiddi during their clearing operations, the same day.

• April 2: Troops conducted search and clear operations in Ninthavin, Kilinochchi, Alankulam, Kumulamunai, Anandakulam, Oddusudan, Katkulam and Mankulam areas of Wanni and recovered 30 60-mm mortar bombs, 47 anti-personnel mines, one 120-mm mortar bomb, 425 rounds of 12.5 ammunition, one claymore mine, one Argus hand grenade, one 9-mm Chinese pistol and one empty pistol magazine, according to Sri Lanka Army report.

  De-mining groups recovered two 60-mm mortar bombs, one Arul bomb, 42 anti-personnel mines, two 40-mm Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 81-mm mortar bomb and 39 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ammunition in Periyapandivirichchan and Palampiddi on the same day.

• April 1: Troops during search and clear operations in Karunkandal, Iranamadu, Mankulam, Kumulamunai and Mulliyawalai , recovered one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), one T-56 weapon and 26 anti-personnel mines.

  De-mining groups recovered 37 anti-personnel mines and two hand grenades in Vellarsinnakulam, Periyapandivirichchan, Palampiddi and Nochchikulam areas on the same day.

• March 31: Troops acting on information provided by a civilian and an ex- LTTE informant unearthed 38 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 500 rounds of ammunition, 86 RPG chargers, two claymore mines and 49 anti-personnel mines from two different locations in Palai area of Jaffna.

• March 30: Troops during search and clear operations in Pudhumathalan, Puthukudiyirippu and Andankulam recovered 270 Kilograms of C-4 explosives, a barrel of a 23-mm cannon gun including its bridge block, parts of a T-56 weapon, 14 anti-personnel mines, two hand grenades, two 60-mm mortar bombs and six Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG).

  Troops operating in the general area of Periyamadu also recovered a few parts of T-56 weapon and 380 rounds of ammunition during their search on the same day.

• March 28: Troops conducted search and clear operations in Thachcharanmuttuly, Chippiddi, Kumulamunai and Kakkandal and recovered 12 anti-personnel mines, one shotgun, one Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), one hand grenade and one 81-mm mortar bomb.   Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 62 anti-personnel mines, one Arul bomb and two hand grenades during their search operations in Chettiyarmakkan, Alankulam, Velarisinnakulam, Periyapandivirichchan and Nochchikulam areas on the same day.

  Electricity Board employees found one hand grenade, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and two 60 mm mortar bombs from a work site in Kilinochchi on the same day.

• March 27: Troops conducted search and clear operations in Mulliyawellal, Puthukkudiyirippu and Udhayakattukulam and recovered ten Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one communication set, one amplifier, one vehicle mounted antenna, a 50 feet antenna wire, 20 kilograms of C-4 explosives and 80 Kilograms of RDX explosives.

  Troops during search and clear operations in the Palamunai area of Ampara District recovered one T-56 magazine and 22 rounds of 7.62 x 39-mm ammunition.

  Troops during search and clear operations in Kaduwela and Welikada areas of Colombo and Gampaha Districts of Western Province recovered two hand grenades.

• March 22: Troops recovered one 81-mm mortar bomb, two claymore mines, 41 anti-personnel mines, 22 Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) chargers, 42 RPG bombs, one 60-mm mortar launcher, two 40-mm mortar launchers, 26 60-mm mortar bombs, six 60-mm mortar fuses, one Rangan 99 anti-personnel mine, three hand grenades, 2000 rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, one electric mine and one thermo baric weapon during search and clear operations in Wellarasinnakulam, Ariyalai, Karaweddi, Periyapandivirichchan, Periyamadu, Nachchikulam, Palampiddi, Chettiarmakan, Akkarayankulam, Korakkankaddu, Ampakamam, Mullaweli and Kumulamunai.

  Troops while engaged in checking of vehicles at Omanthai entry / exit point found 269 T-56 ammunition and Chinese made tent on the same day.

• March 15: Troops during their search and clear operations in Nallur, Pirappanmaduwa, Oddankulam, Iranamadu, Puthumattalan, Kanthale and Kiliveddi areas of Wanni recovered three 60-mm mortar bombs, twelve hand grenades, five 81-mm mortar bombs, one booby trap, made using a 81-mm mortar bomb, one T-56 fixed butt weapon, thirteen T-56 magazines, one pouch, one hundred and 50 rounds of 7.62 x 39-mm ammunition and 50grams of C-4 explosives.

  De-mining groups recovered 131 anti-personnel mines, 475 rounds of 7.62 x 39-mm ammunition, ten Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), one 40-mm bomb, three RPG body parts and six hand grenades in Velarsinnakulam, Periyathampanai, Periyapandivirichchan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Palampiddi, Nochchikulam, Chettiyarmakan, Waddakachchi and Iranamadu areasof Wanni.

• March 13: Troops during search and clear operations in Iranamadu, Paranthan, Vellamullivaikkal, Kumburupiddi and Sittandy areas of Wanni recovered seven hand grenades, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one suicide jacket with explosives, two G3A3 weapons, one SLR weapon, one T-56 weapon, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) barrel, one shotgun and two 81-mm mortar bombs. Meanwhile, civilians clearing their lands found one-81 mm mortar bomb in Omanthai area on the same day.

• March 11: Troops recovered four 60-mm mortar bombs, two anti-personnel mines, two hand grenades, one 120-mm mortar bomb, 21 81 mm-Para bombs, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs) and one T-56 - M III weapon from Passiyur, Super Madam, Periyathampanai, Iranamadu, Mulaikoduttavil, Vattapalai and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni. Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 101 anti-personnel mines, three RPG bombs, two 60-mm mortar bombs, one 40-mm bomb, one 81-mm mortar bomb and one detonator on the same day from Periyathampanai, Sinnapandivirichchan, Palampiddi, Nochchikulam, Chettiyarmakan, Kattaiadampan and Iranamadu areas.

  Naval troops attached to the Point Pedro Naval Detachment in the Northern Naval Area of Jaffna District recovered 14 packets of three kilograms  each C-4 explosives, five complete suicide jackets, and accessories for explosive devices hidden in a boat's false double bottom according to the Sri Lanka Navy report.

• March 8: Troops serving general areas of Ariyalai, Adampan, Iranamadu and Vellamullivaikkal recovered one 81-mm mortar bomb, 48 anti-personnel mines, two Rangan 99 anti-personnel mines, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one Arul bomb, 200 trapping charges, one 144 IED, 20kilograms of RDX explosives, 24 detonator codes, three claymore mines, 12 suicide jackets with explosives, 10 suicide jackets without explosives, 16 C- 4 chargers, 28 claymore remote controllers, four boxes with C-4 explosives, two unidentified small machines, 570 remote control switches, 93 remote controller circuits, 12 unidentified chargers and 18 improvised LTTE torches.

• March 7: A Mine Action Group (MAG) team demining in the Palampiddi area of Vavuniya Ditrict meanwhile found 17 anti-personnel mines and a 60-mm mortar bomb.

  Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) demining team clearing the general area of Madhu Road found 48 anti-personnel mines, 2 RPG bombs, one 60-mm and one 81-mm mortar bombs and a hand grenade.

• March 6: Naval troops attached to Sri Lanka Naval Ships Elara on information received from civilians recovered two 81-mm high explosive mortar bombs from an abandoned well located close to Walanthalai Junction in Karainagar of Jaffna.

  Troops recovered four anti-personnel mines, 17 60-mm mortar bombs, five 81-mm mortar bombs, seven unidentified bombs, eight hand grenades, 11 claymore mines, one booby trap and 11 120-mm mortar bombs during search and clear operations in Mullaittivu, Kumulamunai, Iranamadu, Kanchilamadu, Kilinochchi, Paranthan, Palai and Adampan areas of North.

  Army Intelligence troops engaged in a combined search operation with the special operation unit troops of Sri Lanka Air Force in Kadawana area in Trincomalee District recovered one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG), 600 rounds of MPMG ammunition, two T-81 weapons, two T-81 magazines, seven T-56 weapons, 23 T-56 magazines, 750 rounds of Light Machine Gun (LMG) ammunition, one 40-mm grenade launcher, nine 40-mm bombs and 44 hand grenades.

• March 4: Troops during search and clear operations in Puthukkudiyiruppu area of Anuradhapura District recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, two 60-mm mortar fuses, 48 explosive devices and four hand grenades. 

  Troops in the East recovered one anti-personnel mine in the Kallar area of Batticaloa District.

• March 3: The German Police arrested six LTTE cadres suspected of raising funds for the outfit. The federal prosecution agency of Germany said on March 5 that the Police arrested three German nationals and three Sri Lankan nationals aged between 22 and 58 on March 3. The suspects were arrested during raids on eight premises including the Tamil Coordination Committee (TCC) in Oberhausen in Essen.

• March 2: Troops during search and clear operations in Velasinnakulam, Tachchanmarathamadu, Sinnapandivirichchan, Akkarayankulam, Paranthan, Vellamullivaikkal and Akkaraipaththuwa areas of Wanni and Jaffna recovered, 14 anti-personnel mines, eight 60-mm mortar chargers, eight 60-mm mortar bombs, 11 hand grenades, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 81-mm mortar bomb, 14 40-mm bombs, fifty claymore mines of 13.5 kilograms each.

  The Special Task Force in Ampara District recovered one T 56 weapon, two magazines, 59 rounds of T 56 ammunition, two hand grenades and one I-Com communication set during a search operation in the Akkaraipattu area.

  The CID arrested a high ranking member of the LTTE international finance wing, the State-owned radio reported. TheCID arrested the suspect, who arrived in the country from Geneva in Switzerland on January 10, 2010, while hiding in a house at Pallidora road in Dehiwala area in Colombo. The CID claimed the suspect has arrived in the country to look into the business enterprises owned by the outfit. Reportedly the suspect has obtained a passport and visa after producing false information to the immigration and emigration controller. Reports indicate that the LTTE received funds nearing 300 million dollars a year from its overseas network.

• February 28: Troops during search and clear operations in Vishuamadu and  Kariyalamoddei areas of Wanni recovered one 150-m detonator code, two electric detonators, 10 claymore mines, 15 anti-personnel mines, three 40-mm grenades, 20 various type of bombs and ammunition, 49 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and  six 60-mm mortar bombs.

  During combined search operations the Army troops and Police in Vellamullivaikkal recovered 21 RPGs, one suicide jacket, four Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links with 500 rounds of MPMG ammunition, two MPMG ammunition boxes containing 1440 rounds of ammunition, 72 12.7 rounds of ammunition, 1200 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, nine Bangalore torpedoes, five T-56 weapons, 20 kilograms of C-4 explosives, one .22 gun, five I-com communication sets and one Yesu communication set.

  A Special Police team conducted a search and clear operation in Puthukudirippu area and recovered four claymore mines, one remote controller, eight electric detonators, two claymore stands, a piece of 2-m long flexible wire  and another 2-m long detonator code.

  Police during search operations in the Senapura area of Polonnaruwa District recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 15 40-mm grenades, 49 rounds of 12.4 ammunition and five T-56 magazines.

• February 26: Troops during search and clear operations in Velarsinnakulam, Tatechanamaradamadu, Nochchikulam, Kiranchi, Kokavil and Chettiyarmakan areas of Wanni recovered 51 anti-personnel mines, one hand grenade, two Baglore torpedoes, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), two 120-mm mortar bombs and one 81-mm mortar bomb, according to Sri Lanka Army report.

  Tangalle Police seized a live hand grenade near a building at the Tangalle Maha Vidyalaya play ground.

• February 25: Mannar Police seized three anti-tank mines buried in a thicket in Mannar. Police Spokesman Prishanatha Jayakody said the anti-tank mines each weighed 16 kilograms each and were found buried at the two kilometres post on the Mannar-Kalpadu road.

  Trincomalee Police seized a T-56 weapon hidden in a thicket on a coconut estate in Kadakarachchena village. It was seized by a group of Police led by the Officer in Charge of the Trincomalee District Intelligence Unit, Sub Inspector Subasinghe.

• February 24: Troops during search and clear operations in the Velarsinnakulam, Periyathampane, Palanpiddi, Pannankaman,Nochchikulam, Thachchamaratamadu, Chettiyarmakn, Kattaidampan and Kilinochchi areas of Wanni recovered 147 anti-personnel mines, one T-56 mark I weapon, two Rangan anti-personnel mines, 16 claymore mines and nine detonators.
  
  Nine RPG bombs were recovered by the troops from Iranamadu. Same troops uncovered a claymore mine weighing of 2.5 Kilograms, eight detonators and firing device while conducting clearing operations in Kilinochchi District. In addition, troops recovered one hand grenade, three Arul bombs, four RPG bombs and five 8-mm mortar bombs in a separate clearing operation conducted in Chundikulam.
  
  Further, troops in Mulleyaveli recovered 10 chargers and three trip flares while one type 04 mine was recovered from Andankulam. Troops during search operations in the Kallar area of Trincomalee District recovered two anti-personnel mines.
  

• February 22: Troops during search and clear operations in Ariyalai, Periyathampane, Nochchikulam, Naddankandal, Mullaittivu, Alampil and Andankulam of Wanni recovered 10 60-mm mortar bombs, 51 anti-personnel mines, three 81-mm mortar bombs, one 40-mm grenade, one hand grenade, one 130-mm artillery shell, one mortar bomb fuse, three shells used for recoilless guns, two Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), two hundred rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, four RPG bombs with charges, 3000 rounds of T-56 ammunition and three Rangan 99 anti-personnel mines.
  
  Troops in the east, during their search operations in Serunuwara area of Trincomalee District recovered two hand grenades and 91 round of T-56 ammunition.
  
  The Police conducting a separate operation in the Eastern Province recovered eight anti-personnel mines from the areas of Panichchiyankulam and Kolakanawadiya.
  
  Troops recovered one hand grenade during search and clear operation at Nittambuwa area in Gampaha District.

• February 21: The troops conducting search and clear operations in Mankulam, Sinnaalyamperumal, Anineyankulam and Harasapurakulam recovered 2,650 rounds of T-56 ammunition, two hand grenades, 13 81-mm mortar bombs, 17 81-mm Para mortar bombs and three anti-personnel mines.

• February 20: Sri Lankan naval troops attached to Sri Lanka Naval Ship Gajaba on information received have recovered a massive haul of high high-powered C4 explosives in the North East. The sailors retrieved a 37 blocks of C-4 explosive weighing 378 kilograms hidden in the general area of Mullikulum, northwest of Vavuniya. The explosives had been packed in a plastic water tanks and buried.

• February 20: Troops recovered two 81-mm mortar bombs, one 60-mm mortar bomb, eight hand grenades, four anti-personnel mines, three hand phones, two battery chargers, five batteries, three SIM cards and one hands free accessory during search and clear operations in Nallur, Maradamadhu, Nadankandal and Kumulamunai.     

  De-mining groups recovered one Arul bomb, two 400-mm grenades and 113 anti-personnel mines from Nochchikulam, Mankulam, Periyathampane, Tachchanamarthamadhu, Palampiddi, Adampan,Velarsinnakulam and Periyapandivirichchan areas on the same day.

• February 17: Troops during search and clear operations in the Ketpeli and Iranamadu areas of Wanni on February 17 recovered one claymore mine and one anti-personnel mine, according to Sri Lanka Army report. Meanwhile de-mining groups found one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), seven hand grenades, two 60-mm mortar bombs, two 40-mm grenade launcher bombs, one round of artillery ammunition, four rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition and one anti-personnel mine from Palaivadi and Iranamadu areas.

• February 15: Troops during search and clear operations in Sinnathampane, Akkarayankulam, Anandakulam and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni recovered one AK-47 weapon magazine, one T-56 magazine, 17 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition, three anti-personnel mines, two bombs, one night vision binocular, three General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) links, 300 rounds of 7.63 x 51mm ammunition, 1300 rounds of 62 x 54 mm ammunition and one T-56 body group.    

  Troops recovered two hand grenades during a search operation in Kokkadicholai on the same day.

• February 14: Troops during search and clear operations in the Karappukutti, Puliyankulam and Mundimurippu areas of Wanni recovered one 60-mm mortar bomb, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and two T-55 tanks abandoned by the LTTE. Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered 25 anti-personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb and 120 rounds of T-56 ammunition from Periyapandivirichchan and Periyanthampanei areas on the same day.

• February 11: Troops during search and clear operations in the general areas of Nawalady, Vilpathhu National Park, Arasamuruppu, Adampan, Andankulam and Vellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni recovered one T-56 weapon, twenty-eight T-56 magazines, seventy-nine 7.62 mm ammunition, four anti personnel mines, two 81mm bombs, one 60 mm mortar bomb, one Rangan-99 anti personnel mine, one 12.7 link with one hundred 12.7 rounds of ammunition, forty-four Light Machine Gun (LMG) links, twelve canon rounds.

• February 10: Troops during search and clear operations in Puliyankulam, Palenagar, Mulleyaweli, Andankulam and Sampeltive areas of Wanni recovered three kilograms of TNT explosives, three claymore mines weighing about 2.5 kilograms each, two recoilless shells, five hand grenades, two Rangan-99 anti-personnel mines, 15 rounds of 9-mm ammunition, one magazine.

• February 9: Troops recovered 108 anti-personnel mines, five 60-mm mortar bombs, 24 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), three 81-mm bombs, one T-56 weapon, 22 rounds of T-56 ammunition and one Bangalore torpedo weighing about one kilogram during search and clear operations in Periyathampane, Sinnapandivirichchan, Nochchikulam, Nandikadal, Mulankavil, Nallur, Mullavellvaikkal, Andankulam and Kokkadichole areas of Wanni.

• February 8: Troops during search and clear operations in the general areas of Olumadu, Periyathampane, Nochchikulam, Adampan, Kokavil, Mulliyaweli, Andankulam, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Vellamullivaikkal, Maduruthottam and Ali-Ode areas of Wanni recovered, 97 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 29 anti-personnel mines, four 60-mm mortar bombs, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 152-mm Artillery round, two 120-mm mortar bombs, 10 60-mm Para bombs, 11 claymore mines, four fuses, 10 hand grenades, 64 Compact Discs, five T-56 weapons, ten T-56 magazines, 22 40-mm mortar bombs, one pressure mine, two claymore cells, eight anti personnel mine fuses, six detonators, 80kg of TNT explosives, a can containing 750 grams of C-4 explosives, 10-m of high explosive cord and two I-com sets.

• February 7: Troops during search and clear operations in Omanthe, Vilpaththu, Muruthamudei, Kumalamunai, Thanniuththu, Andankulam, Vellamullivaikkal, Kadiraweli and Puthukudiyiruppu areas of Wanni recovered 11 Anti Personnel Mines (APMs), 50 60-mm mortar bombs, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), six electric mines, 13 Para bombs, seven rounds of 14.5-mm ammunition, one 14.5-mm ammunition link, three T-56 weapons, four T-56 magazines, 60 rounds of T-56 ammunition, eight 81-mm mortar bombs and 70 rounds of 12.7.

  De-mining groups in Periyathampane, Sinnaparichchan, Pichchankulam, Nochchikulam Ampakamam and Adampan areas recovered 72 APMs, three 60-mm mortar bombs and one RPG.

  Police in Mullaitivu area recovered 66 cans containing 25 kilograms of explosives in each.

• February 5 : A special Police team traced a hideout used by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran during the final stages of war at Vellamulliwaikkaland and recovered several files containing classified information, 56 Compact Discs and a large quantity of sophisticated weapons, adds The Island. Police ascertained information about the hideout by questioning six of Prabhakaran’s closest aides now in custody. Information contained in files pertained to Prabhakaran, his family members and his close associates and they would help the Police and the Security Forces with the on-going investigations, investigators said. The Police also recovered 17 suicide jackets, 7,000 Jhonny mines, 300 kilograms of C-4 explosives, 8 claymore mines and a host of weapons and ammunition. There was evidence that the LTTE had run an arms manufacturing factory in the vicinity of Prabhakaran’s hideout but that facility had been destroyed by the fleeing cadres to prevent it from falling to the Security Forces, the Police said

• February 4: Troops during search and clear operations in Vavunikulam, Vilpaththu, Pudiyasinnakulam, Iranamadu, Murusamude, Dangeliyadda and Kalmadu areas of Wanni recovered three anti-personnel mines, three 81-mm mortar bombs, one claymore mine, three hand grenades, three Rangun mines, 10 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), ten 60-mm mortar bombs, five 60-mm para bombs, one T-56 weapon and one T-56 magazine.

  De-mining groups in Periyathampane, Madu and Iranamadu areas recovered 31 anti-personnel mines, one 60-mm mortar bomb, one electric mine and four hand grenades.

  On the same day, troops on information received from a civilian recovered two hand grenades in Jaffna town.

• February 3: Troops during search and clear operations in the Adampan, Iranamadu, Visuamadu, Mulliyaweli Andankulam and Vellamullivaikkal in Wanni recovered 13 anti-personnel mines, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) made using 130 mm artillery shells, 15 noses of 130 mm artillery shells, 16 IEDs, two hand grenades, 23 booby traps, three sea mines, five Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and six electric switches.

  Troops operating in the East recovered four T-56 weapons, one T-56 magazine, four 60 mm mortar bombs, three 81 mm mortar bombs, eight Rocket Propeller Grenades, five claymore mines, 1248 rounds of 2.62 x 19-mm ammunition, 1761 rounds of training ammunition, two anti-personnel mines, four radio communication sets, one remote controller, 29 feet long detonator cord, five Light Machine Gun containers, eight Multi Purpose Machine Gun containers, 170 rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition and 687 rounds of MPMG ammunition during a search operation in the Muthugala area of  Batticaloa District.

  Police recovered a stock of arms and ammunition left behind by the LTTE cadres at Alanchipotha in Welikanda area of Polonnaruwa District, reports Daily News. "The arms cache was buried by fleeing LTTE cadres inside a sanctuary located 15 kilometres away from Mahaweli river," Police spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police I.M. Karunaratna said. The recoveries includes four T-56 assault rifles, parts of two T-56 rifles, three 60-mm mortar bombs, a 60-mm mortar weapon, three 81-mm mortar bombs, eight RPG bombs, two pressure mines, five drums used for the LMG weapon, two walkie talkies chargers, four parts of walkie talkies, a remote control device, a five-foot dead code wire, 170 of 12.7-mm anti aircraft ammunition, 687 MPMG ammunition, 1,248 T56 ammunition and a claymore mine.

• February 2: Sri Lanka Police arrested a suspected LTTE cadre in connection with the 2006 bomb attack on a bus in Kebithigollewa in North Central Province. The claymore attack on June 15, 2006 on a morning commuter bus killed 64 civilians including school children and injured scores. A special Police team of the Thenuwara Police has taken the suspect into custody and further investigations are being carried out. The suspect, Mahilingam Muthulingam, also known as Indran, had joined The LTTE in 1990 and was a member of the Charles Anthony Brigade. According to a statement given by the suspect to the Police, eight LTTE cadres were involved in the attack.

  A court has heard three men who raised more than AUD one million for the LTTE. They were identified as Aruran Vinayagamoorthy, Sivarajah Yathavan and Arumugum Rajeevan. They were also senior cadres of the terrorist outfit in Australia. They admitted to giving money to the LTTE between 2004 and 2007. Vinayagamoorthy had also pleaded guilty to providing radio transmitters which, the prosecution argued, were used for paramilitary activity in Sri Lanka, including denotating roadside bombs.

• February 1: Troops during the search and clear operations in Marathandi, Periyamadu, Kalmune, Mulleyaweli and Andankulam areas of Wanni recovered 35 85-mm mortar bombs, two 80-mm mortar bombs, one T-56 weapon, 15 hand grenades, one 60-mm mortar bombs, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and four Rangan 99 bombs. Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered one 120-mm mortar bomb and eight anti-personnel mines from Olumadu and Sinnapandivirichchan areas on the same day.

• January 30: Troops during search and clear operations in the Arugampuleliya, Vilpattu, Visuamadu, Mullaitivu, Andankulam and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni recovered three claymore mines weighing about 8.5 kilograms each, two claymore mines weighing about 10 kilograms each, two claymore mines weighing about 12.5 kilograms each, one claymore mine weighing about 5 kilogram, 15 anti-personnel mines, 32 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), 18 60-mm mortar bombs, two six feet long Bangalore torpedoes, two T-82 bombs, four trip flares, three plastic pipes containing explosives and 1830 rounds of 7.62-mm ammunition.

• January 28: On information received by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), troops in the Moraweva area of Wanni recovered one T-56 weapon, 287 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 16 hand grenades, eight electronic detonators, one I-com set, five anti-personnel mines, one claymore mine stand, one remote control device, one Light Machine Gun ammunition drum and 2-metres length wire. Troops also recovered nineteen 60-mm mortar bombs, 576 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 12.7 anti-aircraft ammunition, one claymore mine firing device, and two anti-personnel mines from the general areas of Palampiddi and Mulleyaveli in Wanni on the same day.

  The TID arrested a top LTTE cadre, identified as Shantha Kumar Rajan, in Colombo. He was reportedly a close associate of slain LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran and LTTE deputy leader Veerakathy Manivannam aka Castro and was at large for a couple of years. He was also involved in procurements for the LTTE for the last 10 years and was a trained LTTE cadre, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) TID N. Wakishta said. Rajan was active in procurement for the LTTE traveling under a forged passport. He was wanted by the TID and Interpol. Sivakumar was also connected with the explosive laden vehicle found at the Sama Viharaya at Kotahena in 1996. The search for LTTE operatives and important cadres overseas has not been stopped as they were active in other countries. The TID and the Defence Ministry is continuing the search for them and we have not stopped our operations, the DIG added.

  However, Colombo Page, reporting the incident adds that Sri Lankan defence authorities say an LTTE leader living abroad has been arrested and brought to Colombo. The cadre was arrested on the information provided by the LTTE arms procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan who was arrested in August 2009.

• January 27: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Vilpaththu and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni recovered seven anti-personnel mines on January 27, according to Sri Lanka Army report. 

  Meanwhile, troops in the East engaged in a search and clear operation recovered two swords and one Hero Honda motor bike from Addalachchenei area on the same day.

• January 26: Army troops during search and clear operations in Ukkulamkulam, Vilpaththu and Kiriamunawewa areas of Wanni recovered five anti-personnel mines and one claymore mine weighing about 2.5 kilograms and one hand grenade.

• January 24: Troops during search and clear operations in Sinhapura, Adampan, Alampil, Oddusuddan and Vellamullivaikkal recovered two compasses, seven hand grenades, three binoculars, two anti personnel mines, one claymore mine weighing about 1.25 kilogram, an explosive charger weighing 105 grams, 75 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 311 rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition, four 60- mm mortar bombs, three 81mm mortar bombs, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), one 120 mm mortar bomb, two LTTE improvised bombs, two T-56 weapons, 108 IEDs, 13 explosive chargers, 87 electric detonators and 10 metre long detonator cord.

  Menikhinna Police in Kandy recovered several rounds of T-56 ammunition, two T-56 blank ammunition and four rounds of riot control ammunition.

• January 22: Troops recovered two hand grenades, 93 anti personnel mines, three Rocket Propeller grenades (RPG), one 81 mm mortar bomb and one 60-mm mortar bomb during search and clear operations in Periyathampanai, Vembadi Junction, Sinnapandivirichchan, Moddai, Vavunikulam, Iranamadu, Kumulamunai and Alampil.

  A federal court in the United States sentenced two persons, identified as Sathajhan Sarachandran (30), and Nadarasa Yogarasa (55), to 26 and 14 years of imprisonment respectively, in connection with their efforts to purchase USD one million worth of high-powered weaponry for the LTTE, a designated foreign terrorist organization in the US. The two convicts, both Canadian Tamils, were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in an undercover sting operation when they attempted to purchase Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs), missile launchers, and hundreds of AK-47 automatic rifles at Long Island in New York on August 19, 2006.

• January 21: Troops conducting search and clear operations in Periyathampannai, Sinnapandivirichchan, Mudai, Palampiddy, Vettiyarkattaiadampan, Adampan, Kiranchi, Alampil, Anandakulam, Oddusudan and Puthukudiyiruppu recovered 126 anti personnel mines, three electric detonators, one booby trap made using 81 mm mortar bomb, 38 60 mm mortar bombs, nine 60-mm chargers, 11 60-mm illumination mortar bombs, 14 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG),1000 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, five rounds of 12.7 ammunition, 1500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 10 T-56 magazines, one LTTE uniform, 20 moulds of 60 mm mortar bombs, one Outboard motor and 28 hand grenades.

  In another search conducted in Wetthawa, Mathugama, Police recovered 11 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, six rounds of ASM ammunition and six rounds of .50 ammunitions on the same day.

  Police in Trincomalee District during a search operation recovered one T-56 weapon with a magazine and 25 rounds of T-56 ammunition from Serunuwara area.

• January 20: Troops conducting their search and clear operations in the Vishuamadu, Alampil Adampan, Oddusudan and Kumana National Park areas of Wanni and recovered 126 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 16 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), three 81 mm mortar bombs, one hand grenade, two detonators, one Light Machine Gun (LMG) drum, 15 detonator cord each with a length of 100 m, two 2-T oil cans and one Outboard Motor (OBM).

  De-mining groups recovered 182 anti-personnel mines from the general areas of Periyathampane, Sinnapandiverichchan, Nochchikulam, Mundimuruppu, Nilayatikulam and Chettiyar Kattai Adampan the same day.

• January 18: Troops during search and clear operations in the general areas of Periyathampane, Sinnapandivirichchan, Nanthikandal, Nochchikulam, Palampiddi, Akkarayankulam, Iranamadu, Vishvamadu, Maduvilnadu, Nallur,Mullaittivu, Oddusudan and Pulabadi recovered one micro pistol, one micro pistol magazine, six rounds of ammunition, 121 anti personnel mines, 11 60 mm mortar bombs, 10 hand grenades, 24 Rocket Propeller grenades (RPG), two Rangan bombs, 25 detonator codes, five claymore mines, five boxes of iron balls, one shotgun and two shotgun barrels.

• January 17: During search and clear operations conducted in the Kilinochchi, Andankulam and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni, the troops recovered eight hand grenades, two anti-personnel mines, three 60-mm mortar bombs and one Rocket Propeller Grenade.

• January 15: Troops conducted search and clear operations in the Kokavil, Ampakamam, Mulankavil, Wellamullivaikkal, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Kumalamunai, Periyanthampanei, Periyapandivirichchan, Sinnapandivirichchan, Madu, Puwarsakulam, Palampiddi, Nochchikulam and Andankulam areas of Wanni  on January 15  and recovered  one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), eight hand grenades, one T-56 weapon, three T-56 magazines, one FNC pack, 57 Arul bombs, two Sony video cameras, seven video tapes, two radio sets, one computer hard disk, one battery, 527 detonators, 64 kilograms of C-4 explosives, 150 C-4 capsules, 170 small stands, 186 anti-personnel mines, one 120-mm mortar bomb and one 40-mm grenade launcher, according to a Sri Lanka Army report.

• January 13: Troops during their search and clear operations in the Periyamadu, Kattapirai, Periyapandivirichchan, Periyanthampanei, Sinnapandivirichchan, Nanthikandal, Palampiddi, Nochchikulam, Vilpaththu, Kilinochchi and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni recovered 114 anti-personnel mines, one Arul bomb, two claymore mines, one 40-mm grenade launcher cartridge, two anti-tank mines, one Rocket Propeller grenade, one hand grenade, two Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links and one hundred and twenty-three rounds of MPMG ammunition on January 13, according to a Sri Lanka Army report.

• January 12: Troops conducted search and clear operations in the Kattapirai, Iranamadu, Mullaitivu and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni and recovered one T-56 weapon, eight hand grenades, two shotguns cartridges, one charger, one claymore mine, one anti-tank mine, one anti-personnel mine, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one LTTE uniform, one LTTE cap, two dog tags, one mobile phone, one battery charger, one hand microphone and fourteen 12 v batteries.

  The troops recovered six 60-mm mortar bombs, three anti-personnel mines, six hundred 60-mm mortar chargers, five hand grenades, 752 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 72 rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 60 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and seven shotgun cartridges from the Muttur area of Trincomalee District.

• January 11: During search and clear operations conducted in the Manikkapola Uththu, Modeimadu, Kovilkunchikulam, Akkarayankulam and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni the troops recovered four anti-tank mines, 36 anti-personnel mines, thirty-two 60-mm mortar bombs, four Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), three 81-mm mortar bombs, 11 hand grenades, 472 Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, one disposable RPG gun.

  Trincomalee Police recovered two T-56 weapons, seven T-56 magazines, 391 rounds of T-56 ammunition, one radio set, one night vision device, two plastic boxes with chargers and one pouch from the Iluppukulam and Muttur areas.

• January 10: Troops continued search and clear operations in the Periyanthampanei, Periyapandiparichchan, Vavunikulam, Nochchikulam, Palampiddi, Visuamadukulam, Panichchankulam, Kumalamunai, Andankulam, Puthukkudiyiruppu and Veheragolla areas of Wanni and recovered 238 anti-personnel mines, one Arul bomb, one T-56 weapon, four T-56 magazines, 30 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 12 hand grenades, two Rocket Propelled Grenades, two Light Machine Guns (LMG) and four 60-mm mortar bombs.

• January 7: Army troops during their search and clear operations in the general areas of Peralkulam, Visuamadukulam, Puthukudiyiruppu and Veheragolla recovered one pistol, three hand grenades, one .22 rifle and one unexploded bomb.

  Meanwhile, Navy troops conducted a search and clear operation in the general area of Kadiraveli in Verugal on the same day and recovered 58500 rounds of T-56 ammunition.

• January 6: Army troops conducted search and clear operations in the Periyanthampanei, Periyapandivirichchan, Nochchikulam, Vilathikulam, Akkarayankulam, Anandakulam, Iranamadu, Olumadu, Wellamullivaikkal, Puthukkudiyiruppu and Puthumattalan areas of Wanni and recovered 127 anti-personnel mines, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), five hand grenades, three T-56 weapons, eight T-56 magazines, 301 round of T-56 ammunition, one micro pistol with three magazines, one 40-mm grenade launcher, one weapon sight, 13 Silva compasses, one I-com communication set and one belt order.

• January 5: Troops conducted search and clear operations in the Periyamadu, Iranamadu, Mullaitivu and Puthukkudiyiruppu areas of Wanni and recovered one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG), three shotguns, four shotgun cartridges, one booby trap made using 120-mm mortar bomb, eight anti-personnel mines, one T-56 weapon, 192 remote control devices, 11 I-com communication set antennas, 16 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), eight electric mines, six claymore mines, one pressure mine, 10 detonators, 31 rounds of FNC ammunition, three T-56 magazines, one Sub Machine Gun, one 40-mm grenade launcher, one 12.7 weapon with a tripod, two 12.7-mm weapon barrels, one Multi Proposed Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition box, 32 rounds of 12.7-mm ammunition, one 12.7-mm ammunition drum, three MPMG links and 476 chargers used for electric mines, according to a Sri Lanka Army report.

• January 4: During search and clear operations conducted in the Pallei, Periyapandivirichchan, Nandankandal, Palampiddi, Nochchikulam, Iranamadu, Oddusudan, Paranthan, Akkarayankulam and Wellamullivaikkal areas of Wanni, the troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, reports Sri Lanka Army. The recoveries included five 81-mm mortar bombs, 42 hand grenades, eight fuses, one pack of chargers, one anti-tank mine, 191 anti-personnel mines, one claymore mine, 18 Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 152-mm artillery round, four 60-mm mortar bombs, two Rangan bombs, two detonators, two rounds of .38-mm ammunition, two rounds of micro pistol ammunition, four T-56 weapons, two T-56 bayonets, 22 T-56 magazines, a stock of weapon parts, one T-81 weapon, six M-16 weapons, three I-com communication sets, one I-com battery, one box of T-56 ammunition, 2000 kilograms of explosives, sixteen 14.8-mm weapon barrels, two shot guns, 2500 rounds of T-56 ammunition, seven artillery boosters, 46 artillery fuses, one disposable RPG bomb, one generator, two computer keyboards, one electric water pump, one video deck, one battery charger, one blender, one iron, one black wire roll, 10 motor cycle tyres and two motor cycle silencers.

  The Vavuniya Police Crime Unit unearthed a large haul of arms and explosives, including slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s personal rifle together along with body armour in Wellamullivaikkal. Senior Deputy Inspector General (North) Nimal Lewke said on information gathered from one of the personal bodyguards of the slain LTTE leader, a special team from the Vavuniya Police recovered over 2,000 kilograms of high explosives and Prabhakaran’s personal rifle. "They uncovered an M-16A2 with a grenade launcher along with a body armour that was believed to be used by the LTTE leader. The body armour was specially tailored for the LTTE leader", Lewke told the Daily News. The arms and explosives were carefully concealed and buried in the Wellamullivaikkal jungle. Police recovered two boat engines, a 40 horse power engine, 18 Arul bombs, 2,000 kilograms of RDX explosives, 88 suicide kits, two claymore mines, 17 of 60-mm mortar bombs, two weapon chargers, 20 pouches, 122 full switches, ten of 60-mm artillery shell chargers, 50 detonators, 2,500 of 7.62 ammunition, 250 grams gun powder, a torpedo, 25 anti-personnel mines, 25 artillery boosters, 46 artillery fuses, a disposable RPG weapon, 15 hand grenades, 16 of 14.5 weapon barrels, two automatic shot guns, 50 claymore stands, a large quantity of dead code wire, 20 remote control switches and eight suicide kit switches.

• January 3: Troops conducted search and clear operations in the Periyamadu,  Piramanakankulam, Mullaitivu and Puthukuddiruppu areas of Wanni and recovered two human skeletons along with LTTE dog tags, two anti-tank mines, 27 anti-personnel mines, 28 Arul bombs, four hand grenades, 1812 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 10 claymore mines, three Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG), one 85-mm mortar bomb, one 120-mm mortar bomb, three 60-mm mortar bombs, 85 suicide jackets without explosives, 20 LTTE pouches, 50 detonators, 250 grams of explosives, two primer packets, one Bangalore torpedo and three Outboard Motors.

• January 1: During search and clear operations conducted in the Periyapandivirichchan, Nandankandal and Akkarayankulam areas of Wanni the troops recovered two anti-tank mines, 52 Anti-Personnel Mines (APMs) and 13 Arul bombs,.

  Troops in Welioya recovered one pressure mine, six APMs, four claymore mines, 10 detonators and 10 hand grenades from the Mankalawewa area.
